My ssd (WD_BLACK SN770M) is too small to lock in place on my motherboard (MSI PRO B760M-A). Is there anyway I can install it onto the motherboard regardless?

I built a brand new pc using neweggs pc building tool and I accidentally bought an SSD disk too small to lock in place on the motherboard. Is there anything I can do without replacing the SSD?

  1. I guess you want also to look good, because some duct tape will do the job…

  2. The lazy way is to put a hole in a popsicle stick and screw it in so it clamps the thing down. They make adapters but I’m giving you the lazy IT way to do shit

Just use some electric tape easy fix not a problem

  4. A drop of hot glue or double back tape works pretty well.

People actually take the time to lock these down? 🤔

I suddenly feel like a caveman.

Thank you everyone for all the great (and funny) comments. I’ll probably just use a popsicle stick like people here suggest.

Those ssds are usually much more expensive? Where did you get it?

Use a single strip of electrical tape to just keep it down 👍

When I saw the second picture I thought you were trying to install it in the CPU slot then I was like, “CRAP, you got me. Stupid meme!” Then I looked at the pictures again and realized that this is a legit posting. I would either return it and get the correct size or see if there’s an adapter.

I used the ssd heatsink on my mobo to hold it down, has worked great

Its not too short! It would be about Just the right length, Just ask my gf…

  12. People already put some great ideas but maybe some double sided tape would work too 🤔

    I mean

You *can* use it like that but I recommend grabbing a 2230 to 2280 adapter like many people have said.

RTFM, because if you had, you wouldn’t need to ask…

  15. I put a SSD that is too long into my main board… And just use some tape to keep it there. Have all of my games on that drive (no important data) but never had an issue.

Electrical tape, it’s not stupid if it works

It will work regardless, if you really need to, use electrical tape

Why not return it and buy a proper 2280 m.2 nvme?

In the future, use pc part picker, it won’t let this happen. Also, just get a 2280, regardless of what the MB *can* fit , 2280 will always be the best value and work with all MBs
