modern equipment and software makes this basically redundant, and i assume this is office equipment so the equipment is more reliable which makes it even more pointless
However generally its good practise to do a safe shutdown of the computer using the power button or clicking shutdown through windows
They do it because it’s not their problem. If you start passing down the costs/liability of misuse to users in some form, they stop doing it real quick. I’ve seen people losing bonuses, benefits, even being fired for such.
You’re going to need to explain to me how unplugging a computer causes a short.
Meanwhile my computer will never ever let me safely unplug my external hard drive. As soon as the PC is on, it claims the HD is in use..
Yes, you can potentially break your PC if you unplug it without turning it off.
When will people realize that is not Google themselves. It’s just pulling information from a regularly visited site. There is a video with a whole explanation on how they do it. Just a shame Google doesn’t make it known it’s information from a website and not them themselves.
The fact that so many people still think itâs bad for the hardware to âhard shut downâ the device is baffling me. Your hardware knows only two states: power is there and power is not there. It doesnât care how it gets switched off whatsoever. The only danger is data loss/corruption if data is being written in the very moment of power loss/shut down.
Well, that was basically the only way to turn off the computer for years, so the only damage that might occur is possible data corruption
I struggle to believe that. I don’t unplug the power cord often but my pc had hundreds of unsafe shutdowns (which are equivalent to cutting off the power) and I’ve never had a single issue.
Can someone explain why it is supposed to be dangerous?
I’ve been turning my PC on and off with a smart outlet for a few years now. Sometimes it does get regular shutdowns, mostly not.
Haven’t had any issues so far. My OS drive is an SSD, HDDs only for mass storage.
Unless you’re working with spinning disks and/or writing to a disk there is exactly 0 risk of frying something by pulling power. AT PCs still exist and that’s how they turn on and off and I’ve never seen a dead one to date.
