Not sure what the developers have to do with it. Try Game company executives.

i mean its a good point really, if using a game isnt owning a game, then by using a game without permission, without depriving the game owner of the game, what crime are you actually committing? your not selling it, or copying it, so its not intellectual property fraud, would it be TWOC? but have you taken it if the person who you “took it from” still has it?
i suppose it could technically come under royalties laws?

Should be game publishers

Publishers? Fucking fuming!

I need to create an easter egg in my games, so that a pirated version adds a pirate hat to your character…
mothergidra
Already bought Hitman on playstation, but wanted to play it on my new pc, so with a clear conscience downloaded the pirated version.
Iwuzheretoo
I can’t even play my ut2004 game on my pc since epic sucks. And I have the physical game discs. And I’d also like to tell Ubisoft to fucking suck it with what they did with the crew game.
Gamebird8
Pirating was never theft. It has always been a copyright violation though
KaroYadgar
Publishers, not the devs. Us devs couldn’t agree more with it.

Im tired of this annoying quip, it isnt even correct.
If you lease a house and cant buy it then stealing it isnt theft thats how you sound. This quip makes absolutely no sense, and whenever someone mentions this, i immediately realise they probably arent the brightest of the lot

The devs are not to blame for companies bad decisions. There’s always a moron ordening they to the wrong thing and either they obey or get fired.
Delicious_Score_551
I don’t get why people think Devs “don’t mind piracy”.
When developers product isn’t paid for, developers don’t get paid.
This is why I work in enterprise software / SaaS and not consumer software. I like getting paid.

Also I don’t count downloading a game that has no other way to obtain as stealing like OG systems like Xbox or ps2

Huh? But you do own it when you buy it, or what am I missing?

Never has been. Pirating is not classed as theft.

Developers deserve all the money. Publishers can get fucked though

I feel no remorse pirating from corporations ❤️

I got banned from r/3DS on another account just for mentioning the words “QR code” when I was just asking for a code for a game in the eShop, not one for FBI remote install. Glad bungiefan_ak is no longer a sub.
Male_Inkling
Don’t pin this on the devs.

Just admit you’re stealing someone else’s labor because you feel you’re entitled to it.
Don’t act like it’s morally acceptable. Just do it or don’t.
Asleeper135
Piracy was never theft anyways, just the most minor possible degree of copyright infringement. By taking away access to people’s purchases though they lose any grounds for copyright claims in my eyes, and it’s high time the law reflects that.
lexsanders
If those game developers could read, they’d be very upset.

We need to make this saying super common and loud so they stop.

Can this be applied to modding? I bought the game and its single player.. its okay if I try to install scripts to make things easier for me, right?

Developers don’t care for the biggest part there are some scummy developers out there don’t get me wrong but absolutely they don’t give a fuck if they mess with your wallet but if you start messing with theirs then it’s a problem. There is no better example than Studio wildcard and Snail Games USA. I would look into their business practices if you own anything from them because they are probably selling your data just to make ends meet because they are terrible money management and are milking everything they can from Ark a far more successful game than they would ever be capable of making.

Gog drm free games are the best. Pay. Download installer. It’s “yours”. For obvious reasons, not that many recent games out there.

More than a decade ago friend bought one of early far cry games.
Had to input cd key he got with the game to install.
Few months later he buys new pc.
Can’t install because “cd key is already in use”.
Contacts publisher with his problem, they respond that he needs to send them a picture of game in original packaging with clearly visible bill.
Of course he did not have it so he downloaded pirate version and never bought sequels but flat out pirated them

Game devs nowadays don’t have so much guilt.
Publishers are shit instead with crazy deadlines and ridicolous features only for cash grabbing
