It was sci-fi when I grew up but AI and tech in general is moving fast. Brain implants/Neuralink chip/Nectome/mind-to-cloud uploads may lead to this inevitability: You “back yourself up” and when you die your consciousness transfers to a robot. How far off are we from this tech?

We’re so far off. We don’t really *understand* how the brain works, which should clue you in to how crazy complicated it can be given the current state of understanding. I study language and disorder and lemme tell you, we don’t know dick enough to tell you how it works outside of some gross generalizations about cortical and subcortical areas that *may* be related to the phenomena of interest.
