Yep. Bionic eyes exist too. Although the documentary i saw which showed them was from 2006, so I’ve no idea where the technology is at now.

This is the thing that pisses me off. All those billions spent on useless food additives, cosmetics & stuff, but we have only a couple of models of artificial hearts available and the research in that area is severely underfunded.

There’s SynCardia. There’s French Carmat Aeson. That’s the only two certified for actual use that I know of.

There’s two more in development. That is it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_heart

This is for a disease which kills a very high number of people…

My gripe with this is that evolution has had billions of years to at least maximize the heart’s reliability through self-maintenance, but this thing can’t. I’d love to have a better heart, but we are a long way to match nature’s attempt.

Not quite, it’s external, basically same as dialysis. Once it’s fitted internally then absolutely yes.

Just when it happens, don’t get one updated online, the opportunities for hacking it are much too risky. [Think that was a plotline for Almost Human]

  5. I would be so scared that the battery would run out. Or that something would break, and all the sudden I’m dead. With no one around me being able to do anything.

Did he…actually play basketball while using this thing? Just one fall or foul away from a very messy death, D:
