I have just thrown nine total G strikes for this step and not one has been successful. I am pressing the red button right after he says "one", and only around three of those nine actually missed the target. This one was basically a bullseye. I thought you get a lot longer on BO3?
What exactly does pressing the red button do? I have a feeling the button isn't registering as being pressed. Do you have to mash square (on Playstation) or do you hold it? Should it make a beep noise or anything? I don't fully understand the whole ejection thing, it feels like I eject at the same time regardless of whether I hit the button on one or two.
Had to bin this run as it's been about five hours since I started and I just cannot play any longer, feel like I'm going mad. This is the second time this week I've gotten this far, and I've sunk around 20-25 hours the past few weeks trying to solo Origins.

You’ll get a quote if you press the button saying “Fire control link activated”. I didn’t hear that quote in your clip, thus I doubt it registered you pressing the button. To be clear, you need to hold the interact button on controller for it to register it as an interaction, similar to opening a door.
The time is quite strict. You may want to begin your throw before you get in position. Throwing them from a distance is tricky and may take practice. The G strike has the same trajectory as a grenade so you could practice while waiting on the right robot.
