Unless I’m absolutely out of alternatives, there’s no way I’m buying a GPU with that Damocles sword of power connector.
I was thinking of buying a used 4090 when the 5090 arrives but maybe is too much of a risk.
Most of them comes from cablemod adatepter it’s even written in the article. Since they have issued a recall I don’t see any popping up anymore. Clickbait article much
We are 5 people here all 5 using dedicated psu and none ever had any problems so all with 4090 Most since launch
I got an overclocked 4090 drawing roughly 550watts with custom bios, no melting, no problems and i use it like 10-14 hours a day for like a year.

They’re getting them because of CableMod adapters that were recalled. Not because of the 4090 itself.

I can believe it. I’ve had four in for a new power receptacle (which aren’t cheap, even on Ali Express!), and I don’t live in the kind of area where RTX 4090s are terribly common.
There have also been a few 4080s with the same.
It is *very* easy to fit the cable so visually it looks connected flush, but it really isn’t.
I bought a bad mama jama power supply for my 4090, the MSI MEG Ai1300P, which has the native connection and cable, no adapter, but I STILL took probably 10 minutes to make sure that it was completely plugged in at both ends.
Just shows that the original 12VHPWR connector was a really badly thought out design and there were plenty of warnings before it was launched.
There’s a reason they introduced the 12V-2×6 revision for it.
I’ve never understood the cablemod craze. I just used the cable that came with my PSU and never had a problem. Watched a Jays2cents video and he said I needed one, but it made no sense.
If you bought a native ATX 3.0 power supply, would you be safe from this issue?
