Man, I was so ready to read something new but unfortunately the situation hasn’t changed in 6 years. I’m following the news on Nighdive Studios and NOLF since the first time they mentioned it but the legal situation is ridiculous. At one point they were ready to pay money for somebody at Warner to look if they still have the rights but they even declined that… Too lazy to look. I’m happy though that Nightdive are just as obsessed with this franchise as I am 🙂

Still have my original discs for NOLF 1 and 2 around here somewhere…

The NOLF series is seriously underrated. We need this remaster.

Damn I remember watching my siblings play that on the PS2 ages ago, I hope it gets a comeback

Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time… … … a long time…

If they can sort out the rights issues, then good for them. I’ll certainly buy an updated NOLF1 and 2.
But the rights issues sounded like an absolute nightmare last time Nightdive looked at it. Someone did a video on it a couple of years back.
Seriously, though this is a very underappreciated game. While people were busy being so impressed by half-lifes scripted sequences this game was pushing absolute boundaries and had a ton of set pieces that later call of duty games would rehash to my knowledge it’s one of the first big snow peal gun fighting Chase scenes and also a first falling out of a blown up plane and fighting with people mid air to steal a parachute sequences. Tech engine was very graphically impressive at the time with a lot more physical interaction than what was standard. Art direction, character design voiceover work writing all top-notch.

Nightdive Studios are really capable in bringing classics back to life.

After System Shock I would trust that team any remaster.
They managed to make a remake that feels like a remaster. You can even finish the game with the 90s guides!

Yessss, amazing games!

They’ve said it multiple times over the years. But the rights to NOLF is tied up between multiple entities, making it a difficult ball to untangle.

They’ve tried before & were basically told by warner bros “nah we don’t wanna”

I think NOLF might be owned by multiple companies, so any developer wanting to remaster the series would have to iron out the rights first. My condolences to anyone who has to sift through that mess…

I was a tester on NOLF and I fully support this. Outstanding game!!!

Reminder, since both games are in rights hell, they are freely available online

They should just make it and then see who comes out of the woodwork trying to sue them. You’ll know who you need to get the rights from easier that way xD

The problem is while several publishers might own the rights to the previous games or IP or might own some of the rights, none of them consider the property worth enough to pay the lawyers to figure it out. And the catch-22 is that it’s also not worth a publisher creating a new game or granting the IP for a remake for fear of being sued by one of the other potential IP holders.

This is not news. Nightdive have said for years they want to do NOLF but it’s a well known fact that NOLF is in licensing hell and is such a legal mess that nobody knows who *actually owns it*, hence why it is not available digitally in any form.

God, I really cheer for them. This needs to happen! No One Lives Forever 1 and 2 are great games, but these nowhere can be bought digitally.
Good luck wiring through that copyright mess.
Yes please. I am just surprised that I can’t even buy NOLF anywhere. That game had Art & Style.
YES
YES PLEASE! That game was a banger back then!

Nightdive does great work.
Finish Blade Runner first.
I wanted Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight :/
