Are the pawns auto generated or are they the characters made by other players?

My eternal struggle. I want to copy the sliders of a cool looking character creation but I also don’t want my character and pawn to be one of 1000s of the same. I tend to get around this using character sliders for either a body type or face that I like the look of then make some personal tweaks.

I know it looks like a Piper Perri meme but the top one is actually a screenshot from my game when I kept finding and hiring different Terry Crews over and over again. At the time I didn’t understand how they could all look almost exactly the same but then I learned about the r/VirtualCosplay sub and it all started to make sense. Now I help mod the subreddit and it’s come back to life with DD2.
