I feel like 99% of the time I always have to go find a Gamers Nexus or Hardware unboxed video if I want good comparisons.

In this instance yes, but usually cheaper i5 actually destroys Ryzen 7 with ease. Like 13600K is directly superior to more expensive latest Ryzen 7 7700X, both in single core and especially in multi core performance.
