Its a great game. Minor performance issues but otherwise a 10/10 experience. The microtransactions everyone is complaining about are not locking anything behind a paywall. They just let you skip farming certain materials that you dont really need to begin with. Biggest issue is that you cant make a “new save” but people have already found ways around that.
Qemyst
It has some performance issues, and that’s probably the biggest issue with the game right now.
There’s the microtransaction ‘issue’ as well, but that is pretty much just a big nothingburger that has been blown wildly out of proportion and misrepresented by the internet. All the ‘things’ you can buy as microtransactions are readily attainable in the game, just by playing the game. They’re completely optional, and you aren’t missing out on anything at all by not buying them.
All in all, I’ve been having a good time with it. I loved DD1, and this one is exactly what I was looking for. I just want them to fix the performance inconsistency.
EDIT: the one character save slot thing is also something I wish they had moved away from for this 2nd installment of the series, but alas, they have not. It didn’t turn me off from the first game though, and it certainly isn’t going to turn me off of this one. It would just be a nice thing to have had.

I absolutely love the fact that an objectively good single player game that probably would have received game rewards is getting absolutely demolished over MTX. Hopefully others will learn.
alluring_amelia
Game’s super solid despite minor performance hiccups. MTX drama’s just a load of hot air imo. Been thoroughly enjoying it.

I just wait til complete edition next year

I don’t understand why everyone keeps saying “minor” performance issues. I decided to watch a streamer play it before getting it so I could decide if it was worth it, and he literally couldn’t play it. The game crashed every 5 minutes. Even if it’s perfect on PS, that’s not minor. It was a complete joke.

Side note: who the fuck holds a mace like that?

staying away from gaming videos and articles. there are better ways to waste time.
MrAdvisor1
I’m certain that if the pointless MTX’s weren’t there, we would be singing operas of praise about this game.

Gamers coming in to defend micro transactions in a single player game. Times sure have changed.
Brongo_Jongo
Can someone actually tell me, beyond all the micro transactions and poor performance for some, is Dragon’s Dogma 2 a good upgrade from the first one?
DangerWildMan26
It took 20 years for gamers to finally figure out that games have micro transactions and that’s bad lol
Maleficent_Nobody377
At least “alone in the dark” and “rise of ronin” seem good lol
VanillaFreeze
As someone who loved the first game, DD2 is everything DD1 was but much better. The game itself is amazing.
BUT
The optimization is pretty bad; open world can get good frames but there will be stutters. Major cities drop you down to like 30 fps and NPC’s will pop in in front of your very eyes there. Minor towns have a noticeable drop in performance, but it isn’t nearly as bad.
As for the MTXs; I’m not going to defend them because it is pretty scummy stack the store with all that right at launch, but they’re not hard to gain through in-game means.

Wolf-Legion-30k
In short: It’s good and feels better than the first one, micros are irrelevant and pointless, frame drop is mainly in high density zones (with NPCs).

Don’t know about the performance, but slipping MTX at release is a very scummy move, no matter what.
It would have been much better had they just announced that it was there and better explained how it would affect or not affect the core game.

I fucking hate this “We will not enable MTX until after the reviews come out”. It really should be considered false advertising. I know it wont, but a nerd can dream.

Its not dragons dogma, its dragons bitch mom now
ProDiesel
I’m so glad this game isn’t even on my radar, I feel bad for all the disappointed fans.
Xeno707
I ain’t playing DMC 5 or resi 4 they’ve got the same MTX bullshit… said no one… till dragon’s dogma 2..?
Are you guys ok? Did you, like, forget those games had them too and it’s a capcom trait?
Maybe you mean to negatively review capcom instead…

Having a lot of fun but trying to not let the issues sour my experience

You can love a game and dislike an aspect of it. I haven’t gotten far yet, however the game looks great. But yeah selling fast travel items as microtransactions is beyond asinine.
When does it end? Will they sell healing items as microtransactions in the future and make the bosses extremely hard?
I feel this issue is deeper than people realize. Selling in game necessary gameplay items is yet another line micro transactions are crossing.
This game could’ve been great. Could’ve.

It is not the duallity of man.
Players love the game.
Players hate the company behind the game and his actions.
It is not that dificult to understand (but for Capcom)

Fuck microtransactions

This isn’t new Capcom has been doing this for a while. It’s funny to see people reaction to this like it just happened out of nowhere.

The few whales will outweigh all the negative reactions. Remember horse armour? EA remembers.
Super_Relief_5473
How’s this duality? You can love something and still criticize it. Not only that, it’s saying that the game in itself is good, but the business practice is scummy.
PhoenixFilms
Capcom has these pointless dlc microtransactions in every game. DMC5 had them, too. Bandai Namco is also guilty, just look at the dlc for any Tales Of game.

I’ve been playing all day. It’s amazing

The polygon article is about the first game. There’s nothing contradictory here.

Micro-transactions? Hold my beer – Diablo IV player on his horse equipped with $25 armor.

People would rather come to the internet and fuel their own rage in a vacuum by things that don’t effect them instead of actually playing the game
1ithurtswhenip1
I’m loving the game and addicted to spending gold at the inn to see if anyone is using my pawn. But man the predatory marketing is terrible. “You don’t need fast travel” * sells it as a micro transaction * “we want choices to matter so only 1 save file” * no new game option at all advertising as a upcoming feature and micro transaction for character editing and character revivals *
Brought a solid 9/10 game down to a 6.5/10 for me
SlipsLips
And here I am having a blast with it. Feels exactly what I wanted, just like the first one but new and fresh. I haven’t had any performance problems yet and won’t be buying any of that crap.
