They had 10 years and basically unlimited funds. If that wasn’t enough to make a decent game they need to seriously reevaluate how they do things over there.
Sabetha1183
I know this is gonna be another shitting on Starfield thread, but even with Skyrim we’d all joke that nobody plays a Bethesda game for a good main questline.
The more interesting part here is how he talks about how much harder communication is between teams with the sheer absurdity that is modern game dev team sizes and even a team of like 100-150 has significantly less red tape surrounding development.
Which I imagine is something a lot of us already figured, but it’s interesting to hear people in the industry saying it more that dev teams of 500+ cause problems.
Ambitious_Pie5994
That’s on him, Lord knows they didn’t spend long writing for 4 and 76
Zetra3
Wow.. I feel competent compared to this. How do you not know your ending?
Tearakan
It’s frankly pathetic how badly managed that game was. Sooooo many problems when they didn’t have to rush, didn’t have money problems and had experienced developers.
They even killed the one thing keeping bethesda games interesting, world design and environmental story telling.
SleepyGeist
Not surprising considering they spent a grand total of 17 minutes storyboarding fallout 4.
T_raltixx
I got bored and dropped the game far ahead of the final quest.
ConfidentMongoose
What a shit show Bethesda has become. Fallout 4 a shallow dumpster fire of an rpg, Fallout 76 with a catastrophic launch, and now Starfield releasing half finished.
Low_Ordinary4578
it shows
Kam_Solastor
…There was a satisfying final quest??
MrFiendish
All I want is a New Vegas Remake with Fallout 4 graphics.
thejamielee
this game got about 10hrs out of me before I said nope. Can’t even imagine the slog to the less than stellar ending.
Shattered_Disk4
*People at the office asking him how the quest are going*
Him: “oh good, good. Ya know that one quest with the ships and aliens? That one’s crazy”
*Him a week before game launches*
“Oh fuck I have week to start making these quest”
East_Home_4107
Wait so Microsoft really gave these people all this time for the game? Franchises like sonic the hedgehog can’t get more time yet these guys can?
Lionfyst
Who’s gonna tell him?
HaElfParagon
Wait what was the final quest???
Dwealdric
I’m just glad Bethesda took a hit with this game so they will hopefully have to stop resting on their laurels and making games with serious issues that they choose to ignore (like any decent writing and story craft at all).
Its 2024, and we’re finally starting to decide that the shit that flew in 2011 isn’t flying so hard today.
If only another gaming company could make an open world immersion experience as good.
avrstory
I wouldn’t know if there were anything other than fetch quests in Starfield because I got sick of the “game play” being mostly loading screens.
CursedSnowman5000
And how long did they have to make this game again?
Proof_Construction45
I watched a long ass video about Starfield and during the video the guy talked about how Bethesda never used design documents while developing Starfield, which is fucking insane to me.
MaximumHeresy
Starfield has quests?
Raveus2
Bethesda is a joke now and anyone who honestly thinks es6 isnt gonna be a steaming pile is delusional.
dankestofdankcomment
People played it long enough to get to the final quest?
RhythmRobber
If you have time to ~~lean~~ *make* *one thousand planets*, then you have time to ~~clean~~ *write a complete story*.
Misericode
Well…Was it satisfying?
thefourthhouse
not much about that game was satisfying. i guess some of the guns felt good?
magvadis
Imagine a game being built on a finished script. Like damn wouldn’t that be good.
YuriEffinGarza
Excuses is all I hear at this point lol
Rabbit_Mayor
So the problem was mismanagement across the board, got it.
Siendra
People are ragging on it pretty hard, but the final quest line starting at the Lunar outpost and going through the NASA facility and finding out what happened to Earth was pretty good. So we’re most of the major factions quests.
It’s everything else that really fell to pieces.
barduk4
How is 10 years not enough time to write a good main quest of an rpg?
CaptainCustard91
Stop talking about Starfield or it won’t go away.
BlackandRead
Yeah, we noticed.
Various-Armadillo-79
this game took a decade…
some of the best games of all fucking time were made 5 even 3 fucking years so exactly what is the fucking excuse?
laziness and garbage management? oh yeah that
the only game from bethesda that didn’t make me fall asleep 5 hours in was fallout 3 in 2008 or whatever since then they have bored the living shit out of me
BreckenridgeBandito
God, to think I almost upgraded to the series X for this game. What a bullet dodged.
LennyPeppers
Too bad the final quest wasn’t satisfying at all. Almost verbatim the final quest for no mans sky.
awayfromhome436
Glad I picked DCS over that one
GovernorBean
Was Emil still the lead writer? Because he couldn’t write a character out of a wet paper bag.
Kintsugi-0
10 years… 10 fucking years. even if it was more like 6 thats still ridiculous. i cant wait for the documentary where we fond out some idiot scrapped 90% of the game 3 years before launch.
this should’ve never happened so clearly some project manager needs to be fired.
thedean246
What were they doing for 10 years??
grog23
Is the satisfying final quest in the room with us right now
rawzombie26
Feels like it too. The whole game feels half baked and under developed. Go back to the drawing board Todd and stop putting out bullshit before Bethesda entire legacy is trash. Misfire after misfire have really hurt the brand and I’m
No longer excited for ES
juventinosochi
Satisfying? I’ve lost everything that i’ve had lol, if anything end ending is 1 big disappointment
According_Sky8344
No time? What do these ppl do for all these years at these bloated Companies? Probably spent more time at meetings and other bs that wasn’t useful then their job.
