For real though, I played this WWF game like crazy way back in the day and I don’t even like wrestling.

Back in the 90s, almost every popular cartoon or celebrity wanted their own fighting game. I remember buying Shaq Fu and immediately being disappointed by the weird movements that felt laggy. The animation’s pretty good though so I kept playing that. Justice League Task Force was another game which I just had to have because I love Superman and I was curious as to how in the world Batman would be able to hurt the characters with real super powers.
Sailor Moon was also pretty popular back then. It was one of the shows I regularly watched along with Dragon Ball, so when I was reading a game magazine and I got to the back part where there’s this huge ad for a store that sold imports, I suddenly saw a Sailor Moon game which got me curious and I bought it. I bought one of those Super Famicom to SNES cartridge converters so I could play Japanese games. The Sailor Moon game actually feels good to play with its quick responsive controls.
The Godzilla game is just what you’d expect, a sluggish fighting game due to the nature of its giant monster characters. It’s still fun especially if you are a fan of Godzilla and his enemies.
I remember WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game because it was prominently featured on GamePro I think. I couldn’t believe that they turned a wrestling game into a Mortal Kombat style game, which was so funny to me because of how absurd the whole thing looks! When you attack Yokozuna, instead of blood, huge chunks of food and ham come out of him lol!
Finally, Ergheiz was another game that I loved for the PS1. I bought it mainly for Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth. Up to this day, I have no idea who the other characters are supposed to be or what their stories are like because I’ve only really played as Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth.
I’m surprised there was no Simpsons fighting game during that time when the show was at the height of its popularity.

I’m disappointed that the power rangers fighting game wasn’t shown in this video.

Street fighter and Mortal Kombat were both money printers and everyone wanted a piece of it

Some of them looked really fun. The part where WW repels the laser beams is amazing.

And the vast majority were utterly fucking abysmal. But in a way that can be quite funny if your hammered with mates. Just download like 10 and that’s a fun like 10 minutes each of laughing at how poor it is. The Fught Club one was especially grim.

Sonic even had a fighting game. Dear God….

WrestleMania was ahead of its time with those graphics.

I think it was an “easier” way to showcast a lot of characters from a series without having to make a game with lot of story.

The fighting genre is the best. How have there been no new fighting games it’s only the same three we have been playing for 30 years. Like wtf is really going on. Technology is being suppressed it feels like we are stuck in the stone age with these garbage video games. It’s some sort of conspiracy to keep people dumb asf by buying IAP cosmetics and battlepasses instead of actually having fun and experiencing something new lmao

Samurai Showdown and Darkstalkers were my favorites back in the heyday.

Motal Kombat was the best. I used to play with the character smoke and win all the time.
