A great next step to make Steam Deck part of the family. Then Daddy can continue to play Waifu games and the kids can expand their farm on Stardew Valley.
I’ve been sharing libraries for a few years now. There’s been a family sharing option for a while. The parental control is new though.
This would have been great 10 years ago when I still had a family lol
RIP for people with families abroad 🙁
Honestly, Steam has been winning me over. Their service is so top notch that Noone is close.
I’ve shared my account with my mate
Combined we have 500+ games
Still i barely play anything on steam lately
adult games lmfao
imagine what will be uncovered
As a dad with two boys this is fan-fucking-tastic.
Finally can properly share my library with my kids.
And the child purchase request is just *chefs kiss*
I wonder if this also means I can now have a steam game server running on my desktop while playing on my steamdeck at the same time.
Umm, a ***YEAR*** before you can create or join a new family group after you’ve left one?
So if I get a divorce, I have to wait ***a whole calendar year*** to share games again?
If my kid moves off and leaves home, he has to wait a year to share with his own new family, whatever that is?
I don’t care what silly potential-for-abuse edge cases they can dream up as excuses for this, it’s fucking psychotic.
Disappointing that you can’t play the same game concurrently. My household is predominantly on PS5 because we can buy a game once and play together. I’d love to spend more time on PC/Deck.
My brother and I have already shared the same account for our entire lives
This is an example of why Steam is the biggest platform. They keep adding a bunch of cool, gamer centric features. Im amazed at how much they’ve accomplished. This is why none of the other stores can compete. Game saves, lan installations, big picture, family features, vr mode, handheld, etc.
I tried game pass, but realized I prefer owning the games on steam. Plus, I prefer linux gaming. It is so much better!
Well. Too late for me. After building my son’s rig I realized that I could install my steam, but we couldn’t play at the same time. Ended up buying the 6 games he plays a second time for his own steam profile. Oh well.
Given how awful how the family sharing works before where it suddenly become “borrow” even though the owner was offline or not playing. Total game changer for QOL.
