And also why the nylon cord?
I asked my teacher but he doenst seem to know either.

    Makes it easier to keep the pairs separated, helps minimize the wire coiling up on itself because of the twists in the pairs, and helps prevent too sharp of a bend which could damage the wires.

    The plastic is to help reduce crosstalk by spacing the wires out a bit.

    The nylon cord does two things: increases tensile strength, and acts as a pull cord to strip the jacketing.

  3. For high quality cables, the twisted pairs have their own rate of twist around each other, which can be maintained by the wire guide.

    The little nylon cord is used to add tensile strength and prevent stretching. It is known as a “ripcord” as in earlier cables (and these) it could be used to cut the insulation when making a splice or tail.

    This is what is known as Cat6 cable. If you know anything about electric you’ll know what induction is.

    Basically when a cable has current put down it. A magnetic field is created and can be passed to a cable that is in close proximity. The plastic is to put a bit of space between the conductor’s two minimise this so that if two separate signals are being sent down the cables at the same time the magnetic fields they create will not impede on another.

    If you want to do a simple experiment where this happens you can plug a heater into an extension lead and run it for a few minutes. When the extension lead is coiled up it will start to get warm.

    The magnetic field will rotate in a direction depending upon which direction the current is flowing. If two conductors have current flowing in opposite directions then the magnetic fields will oppose one another and impact the efficiency of the signal

    ugh, flash back to my networking class where we had to cut and then un twist and rewire it into the ethernet plastic thing, and then check if the connection works between 2 computers haha, fun times.

    Makes it more annoying when you have to untwist the pairs and put them in the correct order before you crimp the RJ-45 on

    Cat 6 has that to keep the pairs from twisting and creating interference at high data speeds (frequencies). The nylon is to help rip the sheath off if you need to do a lot of connections quickly and don’t want to have to worry about cutting with a tool lengthwise.

    The differences between the various category cable standards has largely to do with the manufacturing processes and cable specs. The difference between cat 5 and 5e is I believe how the cables are twisted for improved reliability. Cat 6 introduced that separator for better integrity, cat 7 I believe (don’t quote me) has additional shielding.

    That is a CAT6 cable, the core helps prevent cross talk allowing the cable to have more bandwidth. As for the nylon cord, it is used to strip the sheathing back.

    Even better when the pairs insulation are fused together instead of being loose

    God that’s just cat 6 cable there. I think the worst variant still has wire separators between each individual wire.
