Once you play the ugliest game graphics won’t matter afterwards

You could have used an Spider instead, The ones from Satisfactory scared even the developers, that game is otherwise real cute

One of my fave games, Prodeus, has intentionally bad graphics. It is crunchy af but I love it.

Alright, what *is* this traumatizingly ugly game then?
And I don’t think anyone thinks “graphics don’t matter” at all. I think it’s that graphical fidelity and realism are not essential for a game to be aesthetically pleasing. Doesn’t mean you can’t make a low res game that looks bad.
I suppose the other camp is the one that purely cares about gameplay, but for most people visuals tie into the enjoyment of gameplay on some level. I mean it’s a visual medium. There’s a reason we went past pong level graphics, because graphics add to gameplay enjoyability.

Which Sackboy are you talking about? Pre-haitus (LittleBigPlanet 3 and before that) or Post-haitus (Sackboy: A Big Adventure)?

Cruelty Squad is great, though

I seriously don’t care what it looks like. As long as I’m having fun. Highest resolution and FPS doesn’t do squat if the actual game is dogshit. It could be a work of art. If the game is bad, I won’t play it. Just look at Cruelty Squad. Looks like a bad lsd trip, that attacks all of my senses at once, but it’s still a great game.

I grew up with NES games. Graphics are the least important part of a game.

I love art and visuals. If I can’t get into the look of a cartoon/comic/game/movie then I’m just not really interested in the rest.

I don’t know, what would you consider ‘the ugliest game imaginable’? It can’t be low poly count games because PSX and N64 games still have kickass gameplay and are fun to play. Can’t be just pixel based 2D games because NES games are still fun to play. The only thing I can imagine as ‘ugly’ graphics are the games that tried to be realistic but only look horribly dated. Even then, if the gameplay is fun you can look past that and enjoy it for what it is.

Is the game good, or are you making me play a dogshit ass game that just happens to have bad graphics?

Graphics to me feel a lot like fps. Like if I am playing something at 144fps and then play a game that’s 30fps, it feels unplayable at first but after a little while I stop noticing or caring and it feels fine.
I find it’s the same with graphics, I played an old game recently called Soulbringer which is like 24 years old. At first it’s pretty rough because of how it looks but within the hour I am completely immersed and having a great time. I find the same happens with most old games.
Gameplay will always be king imo. I’d rather play something like Soulbringer or Gothic than a super meh and generic game that has beautiful graphics.

If the text in your have is too tiny for me to read across the room I don’t care how good the graphics are. Living room TVs get bigger and bigger but I keep seeing more games with text that looks like “—— — – ——“

I’ve played dwarf fortress when it was keyboard only with ascii. I have risen above the petty mortal need for “graphics” and “usable ui and controls”

The game can have really shit graphics but nice esthetics, art direction and visual style, making for a strinking and awesome look. Usually very unique and well defined, making it look good.
The game can have really amazing graphics and bad art direction, being a bland photo realistic shit show. Making it look bad and generic.
Graphics don’t mean anything if it isn’t tied up with art direction and game design.

I’ll play anything that’s fun, idc about the graphics

There are ways of getting around limited graphical quality.
Nintendo have been working miracles for years on comparatively mediocre hardware, without needing to achieve the kind of graphics that my PS5 can put out.
I wouldn’t call something like Link’s Awakening horrible either.
It has a very distinct art style, which goes for a more 2020s feel to what Link To The Past had done many years ago, going for this oddball anime mini-people thing, that adds to the dreamlike quality of the piece.
Everything that should be there is there, it stays comfortably within whatever that style is, and short of the occasionally choppy frame rate, which I can’t excuse, it doesn’t really put a foot wrong.

Graphics don’t, and have never mattered.
Bringing up artistry as if it has any relevance to graphics in terms of appealing looks is being ignorant of the topic.
Artistry is visuals, meaning behind it. Graphics is technical shit. 8-bit doesn’t look bad, some games just have poor artistry.
Knowing this makes the entire argument make sense instead of being a poor strawman not considered.
Heylookaguy
I used to say that myself. But the older I get it seems the less stomach I have for antiquated graphics and mechanics.
I love Fallout 3. But I can’t stand to play it without the integration of iron sights from the TTW mod.
I’d love a modern remake. But Todd’s too busy being a petty bitch to worry about easy money.
