
The picture shown is a 3090 (top) compared to the 4090 (bottom)… How freaking big will a 5090 be!
Also, “Moore's Law” asserts that the number of transistors on a microchip doubles every two years, though the cost of computers is halved. In other words, we can expect that the speed and capability of our computers will increase every couple of years, and we will pay less for them.
There is increase in performance but not necessarily a decrease in price 😂

4090 coolers are overkill so probably the same size.
5090 might be around the same size or a bit bigger but in future with technical evolution it might get smaller, I hope
The 40-series were overengineered.
The original concept saw Nvidia use 5nm Samsung chips for the 40-series. Remember the enginnering samples of 4090 cards being those ridiculous monsters pulling over 600 Watts? Those were still designed around the ability to give the same performance on a bigger,less efficient node size.
During developement Nvidia switched to TSMC’s 4N chips. They paid a premium and in return received chips that had a massively lowered power consumption and therefore, lower demand for cooling.
50-series cards are said to be designed around TSMC 3nm, which will reduce power consumption even further.
According to [Igorslab (german article)](https://www.igorslab.de/nvidia-geforce-rtx-50-blackwell-leistungsstarke-grafikkarten-mit-neuem-prozess-und-schnittstelle/) it will have ~25-30% less power demand, with an increase of ~10-15% performance per transistor compared to 5nm designs.
Probably the same size as the 4090 heatsink is completely overkill. It’s most likely heritage from the time Nvidia was supposed to use Samsung nodes, and they were targeting an insane 600w tdp.

Moore’s Law used to be quite accurate, but hasn’t been so for a long time now.
Companies like Nvidia figured out that they can just keep cranking the price up and people will still buy their stuff. Also, that they can drip feed performance gains.
I wouldn’t be so dramatic as to say that “Moore’s Law is dead” like you’ll sometimes see in tech media, but it certainly isn’t anywhere near as accurate as it once was.
Feel like pretty soon we’re just gonna have stand alone GPUs that sit external and only connect via cables…

You can run a 4090 at ultra settings in 4k with path tracing and it’ll sit around 60c. 50 series is rumoured to use less power not more so if anything it’ll probably be cooler and thus maybe smaller

We are reaching the size limit for transistors. ASML is building machines now to reach 3nm but further than that will be almost impossible.

I had a Sapphire Nitro+ 5700 XT, which is like a 5 year old card. I recently upgraded to the PNY 4080 Super.
Before buying it I was expecting the 4080S to be massive, but I was surprised to see that the 4080S is much bigger of course, but not by that much.
Well unironically it’ll be NVIDIA’s first *full-desktop* GPU, meaning it’ll replace your actual desktop.

The 4080/4090FE is 9mm shorter and 6mm thicker than the 3090FE.
The AIBs went straight fucking retarded with cooler sizes on the 4080/90.
If efficiency stays the same or gets better on the 50 series compared to 40 series there will be no need to make them any bigger.
