Even after 21 years, Age of Empires still manages to be an incredible game. It really blows my mind how some games can stand the test of time.

    French knights go brrrrr

Not to be the akshullyyyy guy but isn’t this the Ao2 remaster from 2019? Textures look way too good for the OG

My favorite was always the Chinese, with the automatic crossbow machine guns. Or the British with the long bowmen, increased range, hitting stuff from across the map.

So many hours spent in this series and also the c&c series.  Many long nights with online friends playing 4 corner black forest maps.  Hours and hours of build up and shit talking.  Some of best gaming memories include this game.

That and hidden and dangerous.  That was such a great game to play with a couple of people.  It could us an update and relaunch.

Just me or does the thumbnail look like AoE 2?

Get c&c collection on steam right now. The 3d games don’t look great nowdays but the gameplay is amazing. The peak of rts especially c&c generals, they might not be balanced will but they are freaking fun, dopamine rush everywhere yaaaay.

  7. Actually the AoE2 community is pretty sizable right now. Youtubers like T90 regularly have big community games and events and it’s hella fun. The company that took over the franchise has added a bunch of stuff to AoE2 and is regularly putting out balance updates when stuff starts getting weird.

I genuinely think it just boils down to love. If a game is made with love, it’ll still be a lovingly made game two decades later. And if it’s soulless corporate cash grab, made by committee with stopwatch hearts and numbers over their eyes, it’ll be less than nothing even the year it is released.

Is this a repost bot? Aoe2 came out in 1999. That’s 25 years ago

It’s amazing what is possible when you design games for players and not shareholders

Are any of these available for Xbox one console ?

  12. For someone who’s a huge fan of AOE 2 and 3, it annoys me that I don’t find the time for AOE 4 now. Can anyone here tell me their verdict on AOE 4 and how it stands up with the past ones?

i end up completing this OG game every year atleast once

  14. Years ago when I tried to get into it, I couldn’t bare the lag there was. A game where you do so many actions per minute with a 0.5-1s delay per action felt awful.

I asked about it and the response was “you will get used to it”.

Didn’t try the “new” DE version though.

Serious question, I used to love the game lords of the realm 2. Super old strategy PC game. Would this be something I enjoy?

I’ve been in the fence about giving this game a go for a long time. Could you compare it to Red Alert 2? Is it harder to learn/manage? It seems a lot more fleshed out.

this & Medieval II: Total War will stand the test of time

    Somebody mentioned AoE.

Now I have to listen to Shamburger.

  19. Wow the nostalgia… brought me waaaaay back to when I was a little kid. Good times

  20. AoE2 was released in 99. 25 years ago this September

  21. * Good community
    * very good developers support with the excellent AoE II: DE and AoE IV (didn’t play AoE III but heard pretty good things about it).
    * Good roadmap for both games

There’s no coincidence, they made good games and are still making good game, that new remastered Ages of Mythology is wishlisted and hopefully it’s a day one purchase, that latest AoE IV extension with the new civilization and campaign is also awesome

To be fair, it’s gone through extensive uplifts.

I remember this game very fondly, but the game of this style that I liked the most is imperivm, especially the imperivm 3, what a great memories

  24. Yup it aged like an empire. Still have great time playing it from time to time, and still hasn’t got old. Unbelievable.

  25. skernstation

The definitive edition even looks better than AOE 4

I remember seeing a video of the destruction of a castle that crumbled when it was destroyed and absolutely fell in love with it. Was gutted when it wasn’t official or anything… and then AoE 2 DE came out and the rest was history. Probably the best value for money purchase I’ve bought for a game because there’s basically endless amounts of replayability.

So if I were looking to get back into AoE(haven’t played since AoM like 15 years ago) should I get one of the newer ones or stick with the classics?
