I’m quite happy with my “factory freak” 13900K. Performance is top notch, temps are fine during gaming (360mm AIO), and it does misc tasks insanely fast. I bought at the right time I think.

What about the laptop variant? Specifically legion 9i gen 9 paired with RTX 4090? Does it negatively affect overall GPU power allocation? As far as I can see laptop RTX4090 capped ~175w so this shouldn’t be an issue.

Intel is between a weird interval of generations performance gap, one is innovative like first gen core the next is just bulldozer

Top overclockers buy it to do 6+ghz all P core along with the hopes of getting a better IMC to to 8400/8600mt/s (they tune their timing so the speed definitely helps, xmp timings alone aren’t good)
But no casual person should buy that CPU, need multicore performance? Save $180 with the normal 14900kf

Honestly I’m pretty happy with my 12900k, glad to see it hasn’t lost much ground—unlike gpu’s which are hard to future proof lately it seems, especially with rumours of the 5 series nvidias

Also, get an F version because it’s cheaper. Then start having troubles when the GPU is under load. I’ve learned my lesson

99% of the Intel power and heat problems are Motherboard induced.
My ASUS Z690 Tuff board came with MCE enabled, PL1 253 watts and PL2 unlimited power as the default. Constant high temps and LOUD fans spinning up.
Changing that to MCE off, PL1=125w, and PL2=200w drops my temps from 95C to 71C on my 14700K. Yes benchmark scores are less, but day to day operation is cool and quiet and more than fast enough for me.
The motherboard makers want to be the best at benchmarks and status.
