All I know is I fucking love Johnny. Yes 2023 Johnny was a total narcissistic asshole, but 2077 Johnny I’d genuinely be friends with irl. He’s not without his flaws but I really love how they wrote the guy. I know a lot people dislike him but I’ve never bonded with a character in a game so much (and I’ve been Arthur Morgan).

All of those things rolled into one That’s part of what makes his character so interesting is that it’s very difficult to describe Johnny as just one thing. I mean, sure he is a night city legend but his big achievement of blowing up Arasaka Tower didn’t even happen the way that we see it in game as he was a significantly smaller part of the attack than the player is lead to believe. Honestly you could go down a whole rabbit hole of trying to determine the legitimacy of the events that Johnny describes throughout the game.

From Johnny’s perspective, the entire story of this game is seeing his impact on the world.
Wakes up after his raging death 50 years later to see the good all his rockerboy work did against the corpos (very little). The few people he really cared about never forgot him, but they did move on. He realizes all his efforts against Arasaka did fuck all. He can’t save the world, but he can save this merc he got stuck with.
He’s a bad person, but a good friend.
