Who remembers clear plastic builds?

They were as hot as they were ugly.

Ugh I sold a case a decade ago that was clear acrylic like this for like $20 and I wish I didn’t. Would be so funny to have my build in it now

That probably just gets scratched to hell within in a week.

Acrylic is such a poor material.

  4. Ugh. No. Please. Never again. Those hard drive mount spots meant you had to nearly dismantle the whole system to get hard drives in and out.

I had one. Hated it. Gave it to a friend and had to keep supporting it for years. Finally, I told him I’d upgrade his system free but the case had to go. He was bummed, I took a sledgehammer to the old case in joy.

The dust was horrible in these, but I was a nice flex to show your Zalman CPU cooler and cold cathode lights all over. Bonus if you had UV reactive coolant in a custom water cooling loop B)

Edit: Back when mobo chipset (northbridge) was a big deal too. Nvidia, Intel, VIA, etc. All depended on your budget and needs.

I cant stop looking at the 3 ram sticks. ThREe RAm sTICKs!

With the processors we have nowadays, I wouldn’t trust it to not melt.

  8. Designer_Boner

The worst cases to actually ground everything effectively.

My NAS was in one. Kept the cold cathodes. It had 9×5.25” bays which was perfect for fitting 3 of those 5×3.5” hot swap drive bays in. Ended up downsizing it and now it’s in a beige mid size ATX tower

This is terrible to look at even in 2002.

Bro that build looks like it has like 24 kb of ram! Holy crap!

    Clear plastic? You mean acrylic.

Also 3 sticks so probably not dual channel, I’m sure that’s Kingmax RAM which made the odd colored BGA ram when everyone else was using TSOP chips, I’m sure that is a Soltek Nforce2 motherboard, Zalman CNPS3100 series cooler and the drive with the clear top has to be a WD Raptor.

I remember seeing not just a clear case but a hard drive with a completely clear top cover. Not a little window like shown here but a full clear top case. I wish I could have had both they were so cool. I would still want such a hard drive today I love watching them.

Needs more cold cathodes, UV reactive cable sleeves and a levicom PSU

Had one in the early 2000’s and it got gross because I used to smoke inside because I was also gross.
Had a uv light in it and white fans that would reflect it, seems so crap now but I remember building it and thinking it was amazing.

  16. It reminds me of those clear gear backpacks from the early 00’s

  17. ZinGaming1

Late 90’s to early 2000 case. I would love to own one just because of how wild they got.

  18. Ripsky_was_taken

Damn. That is a weird looking radiator.

  19. Chrunchyhobo

    That’s lovely that is.

Nice Raptor X, those are a bastard to find these days.

I need to get my New Old Stock Beantech Acrylic case out and build something in it.

  20. I still have one, it was thrown together for my younger brother with spare parts at a LAN party

  21. Yeah all the rage for a while, when I was doing my GCSEs at school I designed and built a clear fan controller for a 5.25 inch bay as my final project. Think it’s in my parent’s loft still.

Imagine the pain of the people who cannot do proper cable management, all the mess is visible now 😭
