I sometimes think Adam Smasher is wasted potential in the game, You outlived everyone more than 100+ years, and then a funny looking merc comes and beats you without any tactic etc.

its been stated by others many times, a lot of people believe he should have been treated like an unbeatable wall or something of that nature, due to how powerful he was in lore.

  2. ereszkia

what, running around with a dildo is not a tactic?

  3. Good_Bill1129

Smasher (in game) has never really made sense to me for the fact that v really shoulda never been able to beat him, hell David (with gear that was suppost to go to smasher if I remember?) didn’t even come really anywhere close to taking out anything of smasher as v with his/her bare hands can dismantly him relatively easily.

The only way I’m personally making it “make sense” is I’m playing a corpo bread merc fueled by getting to the top by any means after jackys passing, after his first interactions with smasher they take on going all or nothing, modded my game so I could have more techy Armour an wield a hmg, tank v tank mindset.

  4. Idk man, I feel like people give V veeeeeery little credit just because he’s a playable character. V wasn’t no-body by any means. He was already a formidable merc before starting the chip mission. Someone named Martinez SERIOUSLY? Comparing Martinez to V is like comparing congolese mutineer with ak to a GIGN member. Sure both can kill but one of em HAS TRAINING.

Then we have the whole relic to add to V, not only it acts as an extra cyberware count booster but also doubles V’s already good skills with Silverhand. Now let’s back up a bit, our final confrontation with Smasher happens after we have supposedly already become a living breathing legend. V is literally on par with Blackhand at that point (even better imo since V uses cyberware extensively).
While I agree fighting with him should’ve been immensely hard, he’s not like Darth Vader type force of nature. He can be killed and there’s no justification to make him an impassable wall for V.

  5. Dying from a dildo beat down must suck. 🫡

  6. Exciting-Ad-5705

V is not some merc, V is the next Morgan blackhand. V is supposed to be one of the strongest mercs ever so it makes sense that she could beat Adam when some kid with a sande and basic augments couldn’t

David had to get nerfed 5 times in order for Smasher to demolish him (fatigued, cyberpsychosis, ran out of suppressants, sneak attacked the first 3 seconds of their fight, body with stress from all the cyberware). Without all those debuffs, I would predict that David would’ve gave Smasher a hard time. He already matched him evenly in bullet time mode, not to mention David was too worried about Lucy to actually fight Smasher during all that.

Sure, David would still lose if at full strength. But it wouldn’t have been such a bad loss as it was in the last episode.

Whereas V can’t get cyberpsychosis because of the biochip (albeit, the biochip is also killing him and he’s also nerfed) and actually has other chrome that doesn’t allow his body to get torn apart compared to David’s body. V is also a trained merc for several years depending on your backstory. V is just built different compared to David. David was never ready for Smasher. V was.

I hate power scalers but I’d love to see someone power scale V. How fast are they because they can run as fast as cars without sandy if you have good movement techs. V can just take explosions and rockets to the face. V is completely immune to cyberpsychosis. V can shapeshift (Phantom Liberty), and beats Atom Smasher.

  9. MeninoSafado14

I don’t get it. Do y’all wish for an impossible boss fight? V is powerful af.

  10. HisuianZoroark

with how much he monologues at the final fight at the end of the game, it does feel like he should have been more… Involved, than he was in the game?

  11. Borgmaster

Would have been fun seeing him just antagonizing us the whole game. Taking his time, savoring a sporting hunt. We get the ex-employee? He lets us interrogate him then kills him once were done. When our boy Goro is ambushed and were forced to save him or run? Hes there leading the charge, only leaving after we do some damage to him. Maybe doing some critical injury to Goro as he leaves as an afterthought. He would want us to get to his level while still being a “good” employee. The whole game the Arasakas are playing is just politics to him, he just wants blood and gadgets.

  12. on one hand he is the final boss, and “should” be beatable…but on the other hand i think in a real life scenario, he would have turned a merc into minced meat within seconds

Everything you are, he has been for the past 80 years this guy has not only been in the business for decades, he’s also a walking talking tank…while you are a human…with a wee bit of chrome

  13. NeptuneShemptune

No tactics?? I beat that clanker to death with a vibrating dildo. I don’t need tactics when I have stupidity

  14. CrazeMase

Remember that Smasher in the TTG is literally a game over mechanic, when choices lead to the necessity of the group dying, they have to use Smasher. It makes complete sense since the entire point of Smasher is just “whelp, you fucked up and now you’re gonna get fucked up” He solos David, he can hold his own against V, he is the ender of countless table top playthroughs, by lore, Adam Smasher is literally just a write in for “And then they all died” because that literally his entire purpose

  15. TheRealestBiz

Honestly, even the self important beard stroking academics who came up with “ludonarrative dissonance” and other such wankery never meant in a million years for it to be applied across different *mediums.*

This is the punchline to a 90s standup comic joke (*what’s the deal* with Adam Smasher?!?), not a searing narrative analysis. Not even the first ten thousand times someone said it.

The actual answer is, one Smasher is the contagonist in a show and the other is a boss battle in a video game, that you have to be able to beat.

  16. FastSeat1118

I would have liked Smasher to be present more in the game. As Arasaka’s attack dog he should have been hunting V in the game, it would have made the last battle more meaningful.

  17. TigreSauvage

He was wasted in the game. He should have been a constant threat hunting you.

  18. Optimal_Hour_8174

I think just some smaller encounter with Adam smasher here and there would have made a big difference.

  19. DeadTemplar

That funny looking merc is also the most powerful merc in night city. The future is now, old man!

  20. Simpnation420

You’re discrediting V too much here choomba. The point where you fight Smasher, V is already a chromed to the balls living breathing legend. I mean, you literally do jobs from THE Jefferson Peralez and LIZZY WIZZY. Also, you’re literally a secret agent who were tasked with recovering a fucking WMD from President Myers herself!

V is an anomaly. Like Falco said, V is basically David… if everything went right. The biochip prevented cyberpsychosis, V got a trustworthy support system and not to mention a lover. V is more than enough to fight Smasher.

  21. MadHanini

My V was a legend man, what do you mean?
And my V had tactics ok? Low the difficulty to amateur and beat him with a dildo that Meridith used on my V.

  22. CrimsonBayonet

Issue is Adam is supposed to be impossible to beat. With him in game usually being used to just kill players (im talking about the TTRPG) OR become an impossible road block. V killing Adam was supposed to be crazy but was a little lackluster however this shows how broke V was,

  23. TheItinerantSkeptic

Adam’s tired. He’s been through a lot. Give the poor guy a break.

  24. FergusMcburgus

Smasher is definitely insanely strong, but his single biggest rival is blackhand. The real question is do people think V is stronger than blackhand?

  25. disneycheesegurl

Yeah, I wish the Arasaka plot was bigger and involved him as a reoccurring enemy that you’re not supposed to fight until the very end. Or someone that’s tracking you through the city, waiting for you to be alone to attack you like RE3.

Or just like have him come threaten you on behalf of Yorinobu. “We know you were there, drop it and we will to” but obviously V needs mikoshi. Idk j think the story Going on behind the scenes is so much more interesting than what V gets to experience. Phantom Liberty definitely helped with that, but it’s still doesn’t fix the main quest being fairly lackluster
