I realised within 10 minutes my mistake. It’s a SFF build, so that was another hour to take apart and rebuild. I’d love to say this was the first time I’ve done this. But it’s definitely the last….

I don’t get why people wouldnt have seen this kind of post enough for it to he common sense but also that they’re not inspecting components for damage before installation.

Working in IT over twenty years ago for a large international company, I had an end user with a desktop PC that kept shutting down. I ended up troubleshooting it, and upon removing the heating, I found a charred piece of protective heatsink paper stuck to the radiator. It was brown and crisp on the edges. The desktop went on to work just fine after new thermal pase was applied. Might have been a Dell or HP (or even a Compaq). I think a thermal protective feature kicked in to prevent further damage to the CPU.

How else are you gonna learn about pc building. Troubleshooting is part of the fun/headache.
My first pc I built 10 years ago. I bought a new case about 2 years ago and forgot about the standoffs.
I spent a day troubleshooting it and ripping it apart. Only to realize I put 1 standoff where it shouldn’t have been.
