This is truly an outrage. What, do they really mean for me to use a web browser when on my PC to go to a website?? Like some *peasant*????
I didn’t even know there was an app store thing for Windows 11.
I don’t even know why people would willingly use the Microsoft Store, much less the Amazon one, on Windows any version.
It looks like the entire Windows Subsystem for Android will be discontinued and not just the Amazon Appstore. That’s pretty disappointing.
I wonder if this will brick Windows subsystem for Android (was required to install amazon app store for WSA). That’s my favorite thing about windows 11, to install android apps on my PC.

“Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android™️ (WSA),” reads a new support document from Microsoft. “As a result, the Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA will no longer be supported beginning March 5, 2025.”

If you currently use Android apps from the Amazon Appstore, then you’ll continue to have access to these past the support cutoff date, but you won’t be able to download any new ones once Microsoft makes its Android subsystem end of life next year. On March 6th (tomorrow), Windows 11 users will no longer be able to search for Amazon Appstore or associated Android apps from the Microsoft Store.

So you can’t search through Amazon store function, but doesn’t say WSA will stop working. So you can manually go download the APK’s and install the apps, as long as the sideloaders will still exist.
I hope they bring back the audible app for windows then, because that was my main reason for using the amazon app store on windows

so first they take out the 4k HDR tech from the app and now they left us without it, what a DB move from amazon. The hate for the pc users is real, I can’t believe it.
It’s a shame they’re calling it quits on Android subsystem, but I’m alright with it as pretty much every other implementation of getting Android apps to run on a PC are all better.

I think it makes sence, no one uses this, Microsoft needs to focus on core features of windows such as optimization!
Lets see almost all famous smartphone apps on android have now web versions and you can make a PWA or simply use the browser, this is faster than the emulation.
Google has its own for games.
There are other andoird emulators out there.
Microsoft is shifting and investing in the MyPhone thingy were you can mirror the screen of your smartphone directly to the desktop aswell as making other things.
There are other ways to mirror screen like open source apps that uses ADB protocol scrappy iirc

I loved the idea of Android apps on windows, but tying it to Amazon’s App Store, disallowing the use of Google Play services, and in-general not actually improving the experience killed it. Microsoft promised Android apps on windows, but instead gave us Amazon Apps (some not all) on windows, and never made the experience fluid or logical to the typical end-user. I bet most people didn’t even know the feature existed. Thanks Microsoft. Really showing what lack of competition gives us consumers. Fuck their monopoly.

That’s it, I’m reverting to Windows 10—the Android App Store for Windows 11 is the only reason I upgraded. If Linux had an option for loading any APK I wanted, I’d switch much faster!

I think it makes sense because Google Play Store is now natively supported in Windows 11. I know not all apps, but there are plenty supported.
