Obviously you cannot overclock these Xeons at all but it ran so dang hot in my quiet 1U server that I just had to delid it.
Dropped essentially 10C off of it even only at stock speeds probably because I only have a passive 1U cooler being cooled by passive airflow.
The original TIM inside the IHS was also very dry and hard like every Ivy bridge-Coffee Lake CPU’s I’ve delidded before too so I’m really not sure of how wise it was for Intel to use it on Xeons that might be used for extended periods. Or it’s actually also planned obsolescence before they just HAD to solder the CPUs again to compete with AMD.
