I don’t know why this racing game from 1998 needed sponsorships from a fashion brand and a watchmaker, but they sure got their money’s worth

I thought this screenshot would take some time to find, but it was the first turn in the first available race and track. Even the lap time UI widget is sponsored, ® included.

Such a cool game. Took me ages as a kid to work out why the track “map” on the left was just a straight line

  3. What’s the game? Those are some N64 looking graphics

Assuming the brands in question are still around to benefit from it.

I remember breaking the sound barrier. So cool

Back then they probably didn’t ask for permission or the sponsor just said “yeah whatever, videogames lol”.

  7. Diesel was also a sponsor for Devil May Cry 2, of all games. Beating it on certain difficulties would unlock “fashionable” outfits for Dante and Lucia. That game as a whole is a stain on the franchise…

Rush 2049 on the N64 had adverts for slim jims scattered around. I wasn’t aware at the time of playing it that they were an actual product.
