Microsoft gonna end the gpu wars? just watch Nvidia intervine somehow.

As someone old enough to have lived through the 3Dfx, Matrox, PowerSGL and the beginning of DirectX hot mess, I am perfectly happy with one ring to rule them all. People today are lucky. It was annoying AF to pick up a box from Electronics Boutique (dating myself here) and not really knowing what YOUR version was going to look like when you actually fired it up. Also, having the games cost the same but one version got special treatment sucked, especially when the other card manufacturers had the hardware to run it the same way.

They should hold a funeral for the nvidia GPU…
Edit: Microsoft threw a fucking funeral for the iPhone… y’all don’t see the joke??!!
Normally hate Microsoft, but this is really really good news. It’s incredibly stupid having to rely on the choices of apparently apathetic project leads for whether a given game gets modern upscaling that works on your hardware.

And make fsr or XeSS as proprietary or it ll be open source?)

That’s not true. It’s not a competing tech, it’s just a way for devs to have one code path for multiple reconstruction technologies.

Just to be clear here:
DirectSR is NOT an upscaler itself. It’s an API that makes it easier for developers to implement the upscalers that already exist. (DLSS, FSR, XESS, etc.)
Developers will still have to choose which upscalers that they want to include and integrate them.
It’s basically exactly like Nvidia’s Streamline program, but without the Vulkan support. Why this one is more appealing than the other one was, I have no idea. However, it basically does the same thing.

I would love if this could be true eventually 👍
Would be GREAT

[Relevant xkcd](https://xkcd.com/927/).
Funny how games have been using upscaling tech since 360 era…
I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft keeps this exclusive to Windows 11 to push people to upgrade their OS
