So I just got home from purchasing a R7 5700x that I found on Facebook marketplace and there’s a bent pin (see pictures). I’ve tried to bend the pin back with tweezers but it doesn’t seem to want to move at all. Will it go into my motherboard or should I keep trying? I’m absolutely terrified I’m going to wreck it. Any recommendations are welcome!

Not in the slightest. You can take the lead out of a mechanical pencil and then the empty pencil can fit right over that pin and you can gently bend it back. Or carefully use tweezers or a toothpick
I find the the mechanical pencil trick or a razor blade works best
Worst case scenario if your in socal I can resolder a new pin if needed if you can’t get it back to normal/break it off
I heard a mechanical pencil works good here; extra leverage means finer control and also more force; I would just avoid using a pencil on the base of the pin; idk personally as I only have three desktop CPUs, all intel
You’ll be fine, it can easily be straightened. Don’t put it into the motherboard without straightening it or you risk damaging it further. As others have mentioned tweezers or mechanical pencil.

I made this oopsie and bent them all back with a razor blade and a mechanical pencil. You’re good 👍
ur not screwed~ just bENT~ *ba dum tsh!*
*thank u thank u ! tip ur waitress!*
No. Mechanical pencil, lead out then use that hole to bend the pin back. Sometimes those really sharp tweezers can do it too.
Not all cards will work, but many are the perfect size to fit between the pins and gently get it/them back into place.
The mechanical pencil trick seems sketchy, but lots are swearing by it, so 🤷♂️
I found this video super helpful:

I also bought an R9 3900X knowingly with bent pins because it was a bit cheaper, and was able to fix it and it’s what’s driving the computer I’m writing this comment on.
Sorry about your CPU but you need a wash underneath your nails bro
Just get it fixed by a skilled technician. I bent my pins (on 2 cpus) before and tried to fix them myself using all the methods that people are saying in the comments. Ended up bending too much and they broke off even though I barely even moved my hand. Both CPU’s are dead now and I converted them into cool little keychains instead (It’s on my profile). But you if you insist on fixing it yourself, ask the question. Do you really trust yourself?
Straighten it out
off topic, when i first built my pc i was scared to see no pins and found out my motherboard had pins instead
Bend that fucker back. Little bits at a time. You got this!
Use the tip of a mechanical pencil, SLOWLY bend it back into shape
You can fold a piece of paper and use the crease to “hug” the pin, and carefully make it straight

A friend of mine did this to their cpu and managed to bend them back enough to work, you should be aaaa-ok
All of helpful tips but this tip isnt for the cpu CLEAN YOUR NAILS
I used a credit card to bent them straight last time i bought a used cpu they send me in bad package.
imo razor place works best
I prefer a razor blade; I can’t find a mechanical pencil that fits quite right. Slow and steady wins the race, good luck to you!
Yup throw it out, at a very specific location that I give you. But make sure to wrap it up safely and securely and use bubble wrap. To keep the raccoons or whatever out of it so they don’t hurt themselves
Credit card straightener 🙂
I use butter knife to fix if this happens…. Use rest of good ones as rail put knife in between then push bend ones towards good ones on both X an Z axis
You are screwed in life if you can’t unbend a fucking pin.
Bent pins are never a “shit I gotta refund this” situation unless you actually tear off the entire pin, in which case then you might have difficulties repairing it.
You just need to bend it back intro a straight pin. Pretty easy to do.
Get in there with your credit card boss!
Lol, that’s fucking nothing. A toothpick would do the job.
Oops
Not quite. Gently use a thin piece of solid plastic to push it back. VERY gently.
Yup you’re screwed it’s all over
Thats actually not too bad I’ve see much worse here
No, you are probably alright. Just make sure you placed it in the socket properly and it’s going to be fine. Be careful with trying to fix the pin, cause it is really easy to tear it off
Yeah not gonna lie no one really ever tries to do this but Ive done it once before and the cpu still worked nice after a few bent pins were fully straightened out. Ive also melted a 8 pin CPU power cable overclocking for months straight and not giving my pc much a rest or shutoff time. Got a new PSU cable and that 8 core Bulldozer just kept on kickin.
Moved over from AMD to intel recently and Im glad my new 14700KF doesnt have pins to bend 😛
The 8 core still works no problem though. CPUs can take a beating tbh.
No it’s fine just bend it back carefully with a credit card. I unfortunately bent about 40 of mine “exact CPU” taking off my noctua cooler “ripped the CPU out with it” but fortunately they can be bent back.
Technically you’re bent not screwed
Literally the main reason I have used intel for so long. Would I like cheaper, better performance sure…but ape hands go brrrr.
bend it back
Real question for those who know, would heating the pin with a hairdryer damage the cpu?
Nah this is nothing my first build was with 5800x and most of pins on the corner were pend, so i used a cutter to but the pins back in there place but dont aplie to much force be gentel

Trust me you’re not screwed. I’d fix these pins over the ones in AM5 socket anytime
Nah, just bend the rest to the same angle
Hey there! It looks like you bend the 7th pin at the most outside edge, am I right? In that case, don’t panic. It’s the pin for MB_Check. This one is used for the DRAM ECC Check Bits. So even in the case the pin breaks, you won’t have ANY problems, as long as you don’t use ECC RAM.

They are not that hard to bend back – key is to be super careful not to break them off.
Just squeeze it up down up down up down with pliers.. and all will be good
No youre bent!
You can straighten it pretty easily. Look up how to straighten a PGA pin on YouTube.
it’s fine pookie it’s just bending for you cuz you are hot
