Thanks to a very cool gadget called a RAD Expansion Unit, I’m over here playing Doom on my Commodore 64 – something which should be totally impossible

The Commodore 64 is a legendary computer from 1982 (still the best-selling desktop computer of all time!), and runs a MOS 6510 CPU at just over 1MHz, with only 64kb of RAM. With such minimal hardware stats, playing a fast-paced 3D game like Doom is essentially impossible (not counting some clever tech demos)… until now. The [RAD Expansion Unit](https://github.com/frntc/RAD) essentially lets the C64 offload certain tasks to the CPU of a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, which is installed via the cartridge port on the C64. It’s a brilliant bit of hardware engineering, and it allows the C64 to do things way, *way* beyond its usual capabilities. Very fun!

Buddy, you can play doom on almost everything that does have a micro processor/micro controller in it.

    For doom, nothing is impossible.

Impossible? people are running doom on pregnancy testers. If it has a display and a circuit board it can run doom.

Dude that’s awesome! I wish I still had a Commodore 64. The one I had years ago died on me.
