Yes, NVME drives are really that small. And that has the heatsink as well, so it’s 3 times as tall as it could be. If your motherboard has a heatsink for the NVME drive, you probably can take it off.
Having only seen them in pictures I assumed they were larger too. When I bought one I was very surprised to find out it’s like the size of a stick of gum.
Yours also has a heatsink preinstalled so I can’t tell for sure from the picture if it’s legit. You can check the label with the part number, serial number, etc., and compare yours to pictures of the model online (PCB color, chip and component placement etc.). Or just install it and check in device manager or similar that it is reporting its id correctly.
Not sure if you’re already aware or not, but please be sure the firmware is up to date on it.

Next step is to make Graphic Cards smaller, everything else top tier can fit a mini-atx

Yup they’re tiny, thought the same thing when I got my kingston kc3000, yours is even a little bigger because of the heatsink
If you’re interested in the size of these things, check how big the 2.5inch SSD’s were on the inside, most were pretty small, just in a big box for mount compatibility.

Thats got a heatsink on it, looks big to me, look at a normal one without the heatsink, even smaller and thinner.
There are ones half the size of that again.

And yeah getting shocked by the size is normal, especially if you held only other harddrives or sata ssds before.
they’ve been that small for a while, try opening a SATA SSD at some point. They’re mostly empty.

This is a 2280 NVMe, they come as short as 2230, 30mm.

You’re not alone. Coming from thicc boi hdd’s to this was really surprising when opening the box and seeing how tiny they are for the first time.
You’d be surprised if you saw what’s inside your regular SATA SSDs…
this actually seems big. My 990 pro is as long as one of my fingers, wide as maybe 1.5 fingers. I truly could not believe it when I first saw it. I thought I was scammed and it was a usb stick or something xD

Yeah, NVMe drives rerally are that small, and it’s got the legit heatsink.
Thought the same thing when I got my first SSD, like this tiny light thing has 256gb on it? Feels like a toy.
I remember the first time I held an NVME drive and thinking “The hell is this?”. Felt like I got ripped off for spending that much money on something so small. The feeling changed when I turned the computer on though.
