I always zero Oda and let Goro die on concurrent playthroughs. I also now hold the FIRM belief that Yourinobu Arasaka is sort of an unsung hero. He left the family, believes his father (saburo) is evil enough to strangle him to his death and it wasn’t so he could have control of Arasaka. He knew his fate was to become the vessel of Saboros construct via soulkiller. So what did he do? He talked with his bae Evie who arranged a heist to smuggle a key to one of arisakas biggest enemies. The only one truely capable of truely shutting down mikoshi. Not Johnny himself but Alt. Youri isn’t dumb if you read his brief autobiography it tells you a lot of this but not at face value. In the death ending Saburo soulkills Youri then goes forward with his plan. Youri didn’t return to Arasaka after all those years because he wanted a comfy landing as Jackie elaborates during the heist. Youri was already very successful running yakuza schemes. He returned to smash mikoshi and snuff out arasaka corp. Therefore I will never snake him out again.

This is a strong theory I’ve cooked up over 740ish hours of play time. Wondering what your thoughts are. š
Well, I always did feel that it was a bit too convenient the heist happened on the day of his murder. However, I think the point was to orchestrate as much chaos and confusion as possible. I don’t think V was meant to survive.
Weird. Itās almost like he admits his motivations in the devil ending.
Oh wait. He does.
He admits all of this has been to take down Arasaka Corp, because it and his father were evil as hell. He saw that Johnny failed 50 years ago, and that the only way to accomplish what he wanted was from the inside.
Which makes the devil ending even more sad. Not only did we stop him from achieving his goals, but his sister implants their fatherās mind into his body. We indirectly kill the guy who tried to stop Arasaka.
But I thought the whole heist started because the voodoo boys contracted Evie to get information so they could free Johnny to help them find ALT across the Blackwall. It goes left when Evie tries to fuck over the voodoo boys and hires dex who in turn hires V
V genuinely had no idea Dex was going to betray him in the No Tell Motel, both stricken by the loss of his friend, Jackie, and the stress of the disastrous heist. He wouldn’t have come to the conclusion of turning on Dex, especially when he thought Dex was about to help him figure out the next move.
Unpopular opinion: I zero Oda and save Goro. Goro is āniceā but he is using V to earn his ticket back into Arasaka. Iām saving him so he can observe how the empire he adored is falling apart.
The fact he wanted to destroy Arasaka from within is well known and completely canon, so iām not sure what the big revelation is?
But if you mean to say he conspired with Evelyn, to have the chip stolen from himself by himself? Thatās already a big stretch.
I like this theory.
He knew about the heist and the night it would take place, it was perfect timing to kill his father, and he wouldnāt get the blame, the thieves would.

I always found it weird that smasher couldn’t see us through the one way mirror, it makes me think maybe he was paid off to let us go…
Heres another little tidbit for ya. The Kiroshi optics threat detection mod shows that Smasher is well aware of V and Jackie hiding in the tv-screen. So yeah, the heist were all a part of the plan. The only thing not a part of the plan was V slotting the artifact in and getting shot by Dex, thus activating the artifact and surviving, at least for long enough to possibly screw his plan up.
And that reveals something. While Youri’s goal might be laudible, his methods show that he is anything but a hero, sung or unsung. He uses people and discards them when they are no longer of use to him. In this, I guess he takes after dear old dad.
Cool motive, still tried to frame and kill me.
That sort of thing kinda brings the worst out of me.
1) Absolutely fuck Goro and Oda. Blind adherents to the ‘saka reign. Good little boy scouts. They refuse to entertain the idea that everything they believed was a lie, all their heroes were villains. I don’t hate Oda, but he is my enemy, and he is going to die in battle against me. No indignity. No risk of a knife in my back, either. I haven’t yet figured out if I hate Goro, but that just means to me that it shouldn’t matter. Maybe he deserves my loathing, or maybe not. Maybe he’s a slimy deceiver, a manipulator, a traitor, or maybe he’s not. But he’s still my enemy. He’ll still not be saved by me. If were ever to get in my way, he’d be taken down like anybody else.
2) I wonder about whether or not Evelyn was privvy to the whole plan of Yorinobu’s. Maybe her offer of cutting out Dex was the way that she was going to reel you in directly to Yorinobu. Of course, when the op went tits-up, she couldn’t be seen in proximity to Yorinobu, who was now in the spotlight. Seems pretty reckless for her to return to the Doll life, but perhaps necessarily so – a vile gang’s protection is still protection (though clearly not enough compared to the VDBs, and still with its own logistical complications like escaping a dollhouse’s employ). Somehow, I think there may have been a lot more intrigue and gratifying, calculated sabotage if A) Jackie hadn’t flatlined, B) V had followed through with cutting Dex out of the deal, or C) there hadn’t been so much heat on Evelyn.
On that note, I wonder if anyone’s tried calling Evelyn before they walked into the No-Tell.
Regardless, yeah, Dex is dead, but noone says a peep about Oleg Darkevich. Maybe Goro zeroed him while grabbing DeShawn. I hope not, though. Revenge could at least be half-sated. Tsk tsk.
