Why and how is this benefit its user?

It just looks futuristic without any of the future benefits.

I mean, maybe not great for laptops/tvs/monitors, similar. But I actually like the concept of transparent display.

  3. ReverieX416

I think it’s cool, but I don’t see people really seeing a need for it. Didn’t they do something similar with TVs a while back?

This will probably only ever be a concept model, can’t imagine many people would actually have a realistic need for this. However I could see it being a cool thing you have in an open area of your house, so if you go on the other side of the screen it flips the image

To keep an eye on your pets/children.

  6. Sulfur10

Why not create a hybrid laptop and projector? Both generates way more heat anyway.

  7. Amilo159

I keep thinking what colour is transparent?

  8. Green-slime01

I could see this being applied to hud for vehicles of all types.

This is just a concept device. Just meant to show the tech off, not really for you to buy and use.

There will be applications for transparent displays, but likely not laptops.

dual monitor setup where the transparent is in front and regular one is behind

I want my windows and shower door and car windshield made with this stuff; a laptop is honestly the most boring thing I can think of seeing it made into. It still looks awesome but why?

  12. Kaibosh85

AR glasses are within my lifetime I guess

  13. SwankyPotatoLord

It would be good with some kind of AR functionality.

It is the start of something great. While right now this seems silly. It will begin the future of some really great displays and it could turn into some amazing tech.

You can see your boss coming from the other side lol no surprises.

  16. Br0nnOfTheBlackwater

Now i can play Assetto Crosa while driving.

  17. insearchofparadise

It doesn’t, it just looks cool and many times that is enough

Dude I found something about a transparent Samsung phone a few years ago, and showed it to my dad, thia was his exact response saying how and why is this beneficial to the user… Ever since then I realised that these concept might never work for phones of laptops, but maybe its good for a VR headset or AR glasses as it helps develop the tech..

  19. G4meOfJones

It benefits a**hole employers since they can see what you’re doing without the monitor facing them

  20. Hikinghy

Do people on the other side see your screen

  21. JoshuasOnReddit

Actually, this is perfect for some artists.

  22. Hellcinder

Buy a few more and play fake Minority report.

Maybe for classroom laptops to make sure students are working or taking notes and not playing games. Also maybe for police computers in squad cars, they could have the computer closer to their view of the road.

I get the feeling this will be a good stepping point to get led contacts. Or even LED screen glasses. We will get there eventually. This might be a stepping stone. Even if it seems point less the technology will undoubtedly evolve and be revolutionary.

Also, this would be cool in cars, planes, helicopters. Having an intractable transparent screen will be very useful imo. Just maybe not a laptop.

Pretty sure there’s a scene in The Marvels where Ms Marvel makes a joke about being able to read classified info on S.W.O.R.D tablet that looks exactly like the screen in this. Like, that’s not very secure if everyone can read it. 😂
