Behold the first game I ever played. This has been in my collection for 20 years (I played it for the first time 35 years ago. Ouch!!!) An absolutely charming adventure with one of the funnest soundtracks ever. Small wonder I fell in love with the medium

This was mine too. Damn that was 25 years ago on my Gameboy
So sad this game isn’t available on switch in any form.
Growing up, I had a handmedown game boy but it was damaged such that the left fifth of the screen was not visible. This was the only game where it never mattered, so naturally I played it all the time. I think it was the first game I ever beat. Airplane level still gives me a bit of frisson.
Same. I remember 2 being more fun, but I was too young to get far in either of them anyway!
Got this as one of the first games I ever played too! I was too young to have anything of my own, so I found my sister’s gameboy and I found this in my Dad’s room! But by that point the gameboy and the cartridge were each like a decade old and couldn’t last long enough for me to beat the game :/
As a kid I always found the bad guys in this game to be a little unsettling but I couldn’t tell you why
Nice. One of my first was Zelda: Link’s Awakening on the Gameboy. I remember being amazed at how interactive the open world was, pretty mind blowing at the time.
Chuckles in 5-ball pinball.
Dum, Dum
Da dum dum dum
Da dum dum dum – da dum dum
Dum, dum – da dum dum dum – da dum dum
Dum dum dum dum
I didn’t realize Daisy was in this game
[GamingHistorian did a video on Super Mario Land](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=Jg1IIIJTrBI)
i recently watched this one and youd prolly love it too op
Weird old times.
First game I completed. Can’t believe it’s that old.
I had this and my cousin had the Wario one so it was always fun when we went on vacation and got to play the other game
What an under appreciated trilogy
I had #2 on my game boy as a kid. Actually an amazing Mario game.
I played through this game God knows how many times. Those little vampire bastards can go straight to hell
I’ve still got this too!
Some of the tunes are lodged in my core memories.
The music from Muda Kingdom is brilliant. I even included it on my wedding playlist.
It’s hard to convey just how mind-blowing it was to be playing a brand new, full-fledged Mario game on a handheld. Coming mostly off those abysmal Tiger LCD games, it was just… a revelation. Of course now we can all laugh about how terrible a non-backlit screen is, but at the time the Gameboy was practically miraculous to me.
what is so funny with the soundtrack?
If you play through it two times in a row, you unlock the level selection.
First GB game too. The artwork is unrivaled in quality
I remember opening this as my first Christmas present when I was 6. I had hope that the larger box was a Gameboy but thought I’d open this one first for confirmation 😅
It was this and Tetris for me, Christmas of 1989. I still sometimes regret selling my OG Gameboy despite being able to emulate these games on a bunch of other devices.
I love this game so much
Think mine was Alleyway and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan
One of the first games I ever played too, got it with my game boy at 5 years old.
