I’m aware that sometimes he talks crazy or saying very fcked up stuff, But when you think about it, Dude has a lot of point, My english is not perfect to give examples but if you played the game and give some attention, You’ll get what i mean.
He certainly feels like the most authentic personality V interacts with, all things considered. Even in death and after Arasaka’s meddling with his memory, Johnny stays true to his ideals.
I’ve liked him from the beginning because of what he says. Smart guy.
Sometimes he makes a lot of sense. Such as in phantom liberty content.
Sometimes he’s a bit crazy. His talk of drugs. How they treated groupies back in the day. Kerry mentioned how he had a corpo tied up during a concert and was afraid he’d light the guy on fire.
I can’t think much crazy advice though. But that’s not me saying he never gave one, just that I don’t recall it.
But he can be a dick. Such as when he talks about his plans to manipulate Rogue early on.
He’s literally the game telling you what to do
In a setting pretty much defined by style over substance, Johnny is one of the few characters in the game who remains unapologetically genuine throughout. He is exactly what he appears to be, for better and worse.
Slow down there, cowboy. He’s right about a few things, I’ll give him that. But him telling you to confront Evelyn about the Relic while she’s dying on the floor is a good example of where you have to put him off.
There was only one thing I disagreed with him about but overall yup was right. And I can’t remember what it was. I should finish liberty today but holding off because I don’t want to finish it
The fact that this can even be debated is a testament to how well written the game is. I know that sentiment is mentioned all the time, but it still deserves to be said
Becuase as self centered and egotistical as johnny is, that’s the only reason he went as far as he did, night city is cut throat. If you aren’t willing to step on toes and slip a few knives into others backs, than you’ll never be an NC legend. He’s been around the block enough to give pretty solid advice to v throughout the game.
The fact that he’s willing to let you back into your body proves that point quite well. However, the memories you see are distorted versions of what happened since he was forced to relive his events over and over again during his time in Mikoshi for so many years. Still, it doesn’t stop the fact that he might be the only person whose advice you should consider when taking action in-game. Also, that part where he’s shooting Smasher in the memory is where he died. He did that to distract Smasher to buy time for everybody else so they could escape.
No, he gives terrible advice and is usually wrong about everything.
I guess he does give good advice, though he’s not always right. Like about Mosley, you’d be dead if the chip didn’t short circ you after the VDBs fried him.
He is very much a dick, but his political and economic views are very much on point. He just doesn’t act on them in the best way.
Corps are the root of all evil, and I don’t just mean in the game.
He happens to be right at times, but its very much “fuck the system” bs, which is always a shallow analysis of things.
He’s an asshole, but he’s not dumb. A lot of the time people like Johnny do see more of reality than those around them; they’ve gone through more, seen more, or hell even just paid attention more and see what others overlook in the world around them. They can’t stop looking at these things because they bother them so much, then you have the slow descent into cynicism and misanthropy. The hard part is it makes them a perpetual outcast – a lot of people are content to never stand up for their beliefs so long as they’re able to turn a blind eye and pretend it isnt happening.
How many of you consume Nestlé products? How many of you know what Nestlé does? Knowing what they do, how many of you will willingly inconvenience yourself by stopping buying their products, even knowing how extensive their affiliations are?
Johnny is my favorite character in the game.

Sometimes. His bits in PL are almost always right on the money, but in the base game he can be pretty heartless and hateful for no reason where listening to him is just V being a dick. I feel like PL they were trying to make Johnny more of a moral compass than in the base game.
I certainly agree with you, I wish there was a path where you could agree and just listen to Johnny.

I disagree. If you listen to Johnny you’ll just murder every corpo you see without any thought or consideration of the consequences.
Worst example I can think of is the DLC gig with the child athletes. >! Johnny advises you to destroy everything because what they’re doing is disgusting. While he’s right to judge those people for exploiting children, it’s wrong to simply murder everyone. Doing so leaves all the Dogtown kids without any hope for a future outside of Dogtown. One of them is a clothing vendor’s kid, he’ll tell you exactly that and call you an asshole for suggesting his son is better off without them. !<
There are other examples too. I’m at the tail end of a run wherein I almost always take Johnny’s advice. I’ve found he should be taken with a grain of salt. He accurately tells you when people are fucked up but the only solutions he presents are extreme violence when there’s often a more tempered and all around beneficial solution.
He is a good guide, he does a good job providing accurate insight to the world, but you shouldn’t do everything he tells you to, make your own decisions.
JOhnny has had a shit load of time to reflect on his poor decisions. Call it wisdom. I agree, he delivers some serious common sense. I started listening to him and hearing him out more and more after my 2nd run. Especially when I learned how important it is that he and V established a bond.
I agreed with most of his advices in the main game, but had some disagreements as well. In Phantom Liberty, I found him 99% of the time correct about his estimations.

Hmmmmm I would say 80% of times! For example during the vodoo boys mission he was wrong when he said that the net watch agent was lying about the vodoos using V, the agent ended up being right!

Thats what’s scary about Johnny. He’ll make perfect sense and then when he decides he wants to nuke a place you’ll be remembering his good points and ignoring the damn nuke

Every character in Night City are not what they seem to be at first, cdpr did a great job giving characters depth. For example:
1. Johhny at first seemed like a loose cannon when you first meet him, takes a few play throughs to see that he genuinely wants to save V’s life and that be genuinely feels somewhat responsible for what’s happening to V, he just has a unique way of dealing with things.
2. Yorinobu may seem like some entitled rich kid with daddy issues, but underneath all that is a guy who knows his father is too far gone the path of evil and just wants to stop him from total world domination. First he tried with his biker gang and found out that wasn’t good enough, so he wanted to destroy arasaka from the inside, which is why he went back.
I mean he starts out as a huge asshole but at the end of the game he is one of the very few, if not only, people that V can actually trust.
The writers certainly did a great job there.
Johnny is immoral and full of anger, but what he gets right is that he is always being true to himself, he teaches V to stick to his/her your own values and his experience as an edgerunner has led to him having a great bullshit detector
