No other MP3 players can whip the llama’s ass like Winamp
It’s free, no ads, works great, and can be reskinned to interesting types (I favor Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy).
They should’ve had at least open sourced it
It really was a fantastic program. I stopped collecting music years ago though, spotify and other streaming music players are just infinitely more convenient. And the older I get, the more I value convenience.
I think it’s probably too fine grained in its UI for newer people to pick up at this point, none of my students could ever find their way around if they asked to browse my music on my laptop.
Once or twice I have tried to find something newer to replace it, but it’s been 20+ years now it’s still the 1st thing I install on a new windows. Literally all I want is for it to use windows snap to edge thing then it would be perfect.
Unless I’m missing something, iTunes has the exact same thing called the “Column Browser”. I’m almost certain Winamp is better in other ways (I’ve never used it), but it felt worth mentioning – especially since iTunes support Apple Music.
Seems like someone never heard about foobar2000 which is still the best player today.
It’s a good music player because this specific person likes how it is organized? How does that make it such a good music player?
Foobar2000 with some UI tweaks can do this too, and you can do many different things with it as well, considering how customizable it is.

winamp gang going strong for 25 years
Literally any other music player is better than winamp now. Idk what this guy is smoking.
The only thing it has over current software is the “skins” but who the hell is just staring at their music player nowadays?
I still use it. Just amazing.
The onky player that supersedes Winamp is Foobar2000.
But the interface is structured a bit different.
But I mostly stream on YT music now, soooo I rarely get to open it nowadays.
