How has this been around for so long and no sequel, no other company or independent developer even tries to make a game like this.
Ubisoft has fallen so far, so we know that they’re not going to be able to make a good game. There’s got to be some developers out there who see the potential for entertainment, as well as the money and notoriety to be gained just by making a spiritual successor to this.

theres a bunch of assassins creed sequels that came after, what are you talking about lol
Ubisoft tried to make its spiritual successor and so far, it has failed miserably.
I wasn’t really a fan. I loved AC2 because of the city focus which means everything was climbable, but 3 just felt like there were too many trees and open land for the Assassins Creed thing to make any sense. Then they added the boat BS which was not fun AT ALL and I don’t care what anyone says. After that the game just became slop
To be fair, they have tried.
Sea of Thieves has been doing its thing for however long that’s been going. Atlas came out for that survival crafter type. Skull and Bones was a game that’s supposed to have been released for something like 6 years now. Look how that turned out.
Hell, even Ubisoft gave a little bit of that pirate life follow up in AC Odyssey and was rumored to have it in Valhalla until it got pulled to not intrude on Skull and Bones (which then got delayed for the Xth time).
But to speak why there’s not more of these games, it’s the same reason there’s not a ton of westerns when RDR2 is insanely popular. They’re niche and expensive/time consuming to do well. Just look at how S&B ditched most of anything meaningful happening on foot and put in a weird timing minigame to harvest items from the shore.
My goat is Sea of Thieves by far
This game came with my Xbox One, and I binged it so hard for about a week straight after school every day… great memories.
The “AAAA” game that’s 11 years old…
These clowns playing defense for S&B are part of the reason why game development has gone down the drain
CROWD ON EVERY INCH OF SAIL!
TOPS’SL! GALLANTS! ROYALS! STUNS!
ok now I have to replay it again! thanks for the post op.
I hate that this game is burdened with that crappy AC shit, this is an amazing pirate game!
It’s wild.
It’s the best AC game I’ve ever played. And I never completed another one after this. Tried the Egypt one and got burned out midway through.
I would play a sequel to this. Honestly? I’m going to go download it again right now.
My favourite part of this game was going about place to place listening to the sea shanties. I still listen to that soundtrack every now and again. Great game, even greater shanties.
It’s kind of puzzling why we haven’t seen a follow-up or anything similar to AC IV from other game makers.
I mean, the game’s pirate-themed world and the whole naval gameplay were such a hit, you’d think someone else would want to take a swing at it. Ubisoft’s kind of fallen off the radar lately, so they’re probably not the ones to look to for a sequel.
But with gaming always evolving, developers tend to jump on new trends rather than revisiting old ones. Still, the idea of a spiritual successor to Black Flag sounds pretty enticing. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll get another game with that same swashbuckling charm and open-world adventure.
P.S. Its a shame as well Skull & Bones is getting negative reviews… I bet the team worked hard at it but sadly having worked for big corporations I know how higher ups can demand unreasonable things whilst you are trying to programme the best thing you can and see it fail must hurt a lot. I hope the team tries to salvage it sometime in the future.
Ubisoft KEEPS making sequels to it but has no idea what it was that made it great
It wasn’t as great as nostalgia glasses say, and it was always just another Ubisoft title.
AC as a series had its high notes and low notes. Black Flag was hella fun to play after the disappointment of ACIII. It is fun to play, but I beat it once and never looked back.
The game was at its best when it was Kenway’s story. That being said, the ending is rushed, side characters do not really get explored and sometimes have abrupt and immersion breaking ends, and every time I was reminded of the sci fi parts of the story it got a smidge boring.
Much like Origins, it was fun to play until about 60% of the way through, and then it slowly ground to a halt without a satisfying ending.
Really enjoyed this entry in the series, easily my favorite, and yep, exactly like you said, the very next one was another cookie cut piece of crap.
They even paid a ton of attention to the sea shanties. Cruising around on the ship was so fun.
This one and origins are good the others fucking suck. The gameplay is tedious I want to fuck up a crowd of enemies not get decimated by 1-2 low level enemies. They just missed the mark entirely. I want a button smash satisfying experience not to spend the next 30 hrs doing some bullshit yellow red rythym bullshit. Damn the people who thought this new style was a good idea. I got to the second mission in mirage and realize I had been fucked royally anally wrecked and robbed of 50$ the people who made mirage probably drank caffeine.
The Boat Stealth missions.
Remember…
Sid Meier would like a word.
Guys Assassin creed IV was my first game to play on my pc…. And I ve made lot if memories with it… Edward Kenway is rhe best protagonist ever… And i even loved ac rogue
Ass Creed Rogue was basically a sequel set in Canada. It was an Xbox 360 exclusive for a while though right when the new consoles came out so it’s often forgotten.
I liked to turn on the cheats that made the weather always insane and your character always drunk
The pirate “GOAT” is, and will always be, Sid Meyer’s Pirates.
First thought when I saw this: *There was a pirate goat in the game? That sounds awesome and I’m sad I somehow missed it!*
It was a great Pirat themed game but saying it is the goat i do not know. There are also other amazing pirate themed games that could earn this Titel return to monkey island, sea of thieves, Anno series or Sid Meier’s Pirates come to my mind.
Love 4, but my favorite will always be 3 😤
dude
I think it’s time for a replay
All these pirate games are ripoffs of Pirates 101
i never got past the one mission where u need to upgrade your ship, so you can actually challange that one big ass ship, so you could proceed with the story..
Without doubt the best AC game and perhaps one of the best pirate games ever.
The one good thing Skull and Bones has done is remind us of Black Flag for contrast
