I found a RX 6600 for $110 USD and I’m considering to get it. The owner used it for 1 year in crypto mining so I wanted to make sure it would be okay before purchase

A 6600 for $110 USD is pretty reasonable. You do run a risk, but it should be okay. They usually baby them.
Just also double completed listings on somewhere like eBay, $110 sounds a little high imo.

Usually it makes no difference. The cards usually run at temperature for much longer than regular cards though.
I’ve bought a bunch of cards used for mining and they’ve all been fine. The worst one I got just had bad temps so I changed out the thermal paste and it worked perfectly after that. For $110 I’d say that’s a no brainer. But ofc it would be good for you to get them to confirm it works.
Mining cards aren’t worse than any other used card. A dust filled heatsink and a chip running at max temps for months on end is what kills them and that situation can happen to any card
they don’t get hammered mining. in fact they probably undervolt them and underclock them to save electricity. the problem is where they have been stored after mining. often in damp warehouses, etc.
mining cards are great for budget gaming rigs but you may wanna take off the heatsink and reapply thermal paste on the gpu die
Yeah, mining GPUs tend to outlive gaming GPUs in any case as the thermal cycling is what really kills a GPU. A mining card tends to get hot and stay hot which is better than the hot/cold and power cycles that a gaming card goes through. For $110 I’d say that’s a pretty good deal.
GPUs don’t tend to die that often anyway, even gaming cards will regularly last for much longer than it’d take for them to become outdated.
I ran a used mining card for about 2 years before I upgraded to another that was used for mining..

Ebay…check feedback on past sales, I dont buy from anyone with under 95% satisfaction rating. Do your homework and cross your fingers.
I bought a used RX 6800 for $200. Didn’t even question it. Slapped it in, made sure it worked, paid the man his money, and off I went. Haven’t had an issue. Don’t know what he was using it for, but mining seems pretty likely since he sold it dirt cheap

It usually isn’t too much of a problem. Miners are usually well known for eeking every bit of profit they can on whatever shit coin is being pushed. Which typically results in running the card as efficiently as can be achieved. The problem down the line is that everything has an expiration date and that card most likely has seen a lot of running hours and a lack of warranty. You could potentially be sitting on a card that could last a few years or a card that dies out in a few months and where is that warranty then? It’s up to your budget, risk tolerance, and whether you want to give these folks some sort of an out after they drive the market prices up hoarding the cards.
the electronic components do better at low power average temps consistent in mining versus the thermal cycling of a typical usage gpu
the mechanical components namely the fan and it’s bearings has whatever amount of time running 24hrs at whatever rpm mining fans run at. That will reduce the lifespan of the fan but the extent is impossible to know without insider design information
If youre unlucky and this gpu has a fan with a manufacturing defect that puts on the lower part of survival curve then that year of constant running may be impactful.
Yes, it’s not mechanical engine that wears off with usage, for electronics heating and cooling cycles are the killer. Mining cards work constantly under mild stress so if properly vented they are perfectly fine. Worst case scenario vram can get cold solder

GPU’s used for mining are usually treated properly and don’t ever experience any movement damage. They are constantly running but that shouldn’t effect the life of the GPU as long as they were treated well, which usually they are so, id run the risk for that price
A GPU is designed to run at 100% 24/7.
To be honest if it’s come from someone who was serious about mining they’ve probably maintained it better than someone who stuck it in their gaming pc and left it there until they took it out to sell.

My rx 570 and rx5700 gpus are former mining cards. Not had a issue with ether other then not realizing how big the xfx rx5700 DD Ultra was for an rx5700 card when I upgraded from the rx570.
Big thing to watch out for are the fans, but those are generally replaceable.
this exact gpu from powercolor was the reason for the bad bad input lag i was having, and it died on me after a year. i discovered it was the cause of the input lag cause the new gpu just came and everything s alright, with no input lag.
it might of been just a very rare occasion on my part tho, just saying what happend. they refused to repair it in warranty too cause it had burned pbc pr sum like that.
