The material on the side is made with PVC Sintra board and I cut them piece by piece to make it look the way I wanted. I glued them together and also drilled a hole for details as well as colored them in grey and black color scheme to match my cosplay. Overall it wasn’t a success as I thought it would be but I’m happy with the end result.

What did you use to paint the additional parts you added? Spray them next time, as it will generally give a much smoother finish.
