Tekken 8 is adding a MTX Tekken Shop weeks after release to dodge lower review scores. The ESRB rating is updated post release to accommodate in-game purchases.
Pretty lame to release one game for reviewers and then update it into a different game for the public. Hopefully review scores will be adjusted accordingly.
What im sorta confused about here is, tekken gave out a full game and got good reviews for it. They aren’t subtracting anything from the game now, they are indeed adding some form of monetary shop. But it can just be ignored.
The real problem with fighting games microtransactions right now is that all dlc characters require money even to use in practice mode, so you can’t even figure out how the character works without buying them. Thats a much bigger issue because it effects competition. dlc is forced on you if you want to succeed in winning.
THIS is what really needs attention. All dlc characters should be FREE to use in practice mode

I don’t think the existence of a Tekken Shop would’ve impacted reviews that much. The game was a complete package at release.
The fact they’re adding something that most likely will just include cosmetics is not that surprising imo. It does suck that for many customization is pretty lackluster in 8 and it seems to be that way to drive people towards the cosmetic shop.
But an optional component that only adds things to the game which was already great from the start isn’t that bad. I probably won’t spend any money there anyway.

Trying to farm outrage. You got an immaculate complete game with loads of extras.

Wow. MTX in a major release video game. Oh no. I’m shocked this would happen in the year 2024. Truly unprecedented move in the industry.
