I agree with your friend; that desk is absolute madness. One accidental bump and EVERYTHING falls over.
I could also not conceive of not facing perpendicular to the line of the desk- you’re definitely going to give yourself elbow and shoulder problems. Take it from someone that already has them- you need to have both arms supported equally or after about 20 years you’re going to have shoulder issues. I know because I do.

Shelves exist. You’re sacrificing a lot of mouse space just to be able to look at your dolls all day.

I think it’s cool, only downside I see is having to keep the area clean. Looks like you got that covered though.
