For all the bad things that the Alienware brand has become, I still feel like we failed them by ignoring the Alphas. These things are so freaking cool.
The Alienware X51 is what got me into PC gaming. I traded a PS4 for one with a 4770 and a GTX 760 straight up lol.
I had a friend in high school who had a nicely equipped Alpha back in the day. It had whatever i7 you could get with the models that came with the 860M. Always wanted the R2 with the AMD GPU in it.
We can make it bigger and more plasticy with crappier airflow and weird proprietary motherboards. AND WE SHALL SUCEED.
I had one of those! It’s what got me back into PC gaming. I believe it had the equivalent of a GTX 750 in it.

I bought one around 10 years. It was terrible, the UI was really underdeveloped and janky, and performance was pretty meh even though I had the GTX 760, 4th Gen i7 model.
I eventually just bought a PS4 and sold it.

I still have two of these. Put an sdd in it and it’s a usable pc that can still play a lot of games and emulation. That said it’s still weaker than a Steam deck.
These are really neat. Unless I’m mistaken they were originally designed to be a “Steam Machine” which was Valve’s first go at a SteamOS console-style computer and OS.
I wonder if it would run well on the same SteamOS the Steam deck uses?
