That’s probably because it’s reporting on a per chip basis. So if you have four memory chips at 250Mhz that’ll give you 1000Mhz total.
Edit : Adding a whole Gigaherts to your memory might be a lot, I’d recommand a 100Mhz at a time and when you get into trouble, step down by like 25-50Mhz steps.
