So in the begining of the job (Don’t) fear the reaper,we can see Johnny acknowledge V’s choice on his option to storm Araska Tower solo,but the thing is,JS helps V stand up from his/her chair,we know JS is an engram,and he locks arms with V,and it makes a thud sound and he pulls V up and the mission begins. But how? Does Johnny manifest in the real world? Because when they lock arms V’s arm doesnt go through,so this is weird.
The only way Johnny can control V if V decides to lend him the wheel. This scene is confusing towards me,if theres an explanation please tell me.

He’s not physically doing it (ofc); it’s more like, V is getting up by themselves but is kind of hallucinating having Johnny help them up. A sort of symbolic show of solidarity.
Same way he knocked you down in the beginning. It’s all mental but it’s real to V so V reacts as if real.
Have you ever watched Fight Club?
V is doing the only known case (fictional, granted) of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” 😛
Its like a Methaphore
Scenes like this remind me of Fight Club and how what’s his name is getting yanked around by Tyler Durden. Some look like they can be done by the person themselves when others look difficult enough, if not outright impossible, to be done.
V is pushing themselves up with their other arm that’s off camera.
V very likely is sticking their arm out like a gonk despite this being in their head, though.
If you talk to any schizofrenic patient you will see that even if its all in their head they truly believe what they hear and/or see is real and even react to those alucinations.
V is in the throes of cyberpsychosis for most of the game

the way i see it is johnny using his relic magic to boost v’s body into overdrive. v’s mind sees johnny helping him up, but it’s actually v getting up by himself while johnny is keeping v from shutting down.
U watched fight club?
It adds a layer of depth to the scene and game in general.
We know from PL that he can only see what you see, but his projection is almost like a child having an imaginary friend, or someone with a severe psychological disorder, or tripping hard.
They imagine it as someone making them do things or doing things for them, but in reality they’re just doing it themselves.
Johnny wouldn’t have anywhere near the same impact if he was just a voice and you saw Vs hands every now and again.
Partly why first person works so well also. Having cutscenes in third person, to me at least, would imply we as the player are an outside observer witnessing someone else’s insanity, or if it was strictly accurate, just witnessing V talk to nobody. Being solely in Vs head adds greatly to the immersion imo.
Remember that part in ‘Me, Myself, & Irene’ where he picks himself up and throws himself into the car? Kinda like that
It’s kinda like fight club. Remember, Johnny and V’s consciences are in the same brain. So when Johnny pulls up V, it’s V pulling himself up physically while it’s mentally Johnny who is pulling V up as his conscience in V’s brain is giving V’s body the command to pull himself up. Since it’s Johnny’s conscience’s command, it looks as if Johnny is pulling V up.
Another thing you can notice is – whenever Johnny appears he gets reflected in mirrors and other reflective surfaces and also casts a shadow.!
I think developers kinda forgot to exclude Johnny from the bvh structures in path tracing within the game engine. As he is supposed to be an engram and wouldn’t make sense to interact with light in the real world.

I always saw it as a glimpse into reality for the player, and not V. It shows us that V’s perception of reality is heavily altered. In the heat of the moment you and V don’t think about the fact that a digital engram just physically pulled you up.
This specific moment is when I started to believe all of the altered reality conspiracies that basically say that V either died when Dex shot them or is currently dying and is “living” out one last big shabang before succumbing to the Engram.

At that point, I think relic is like 90% done with copying Johnny into V. That’s why he’s seems almost real. Without glitching etc.
It’s just V standing up. In his head, he’s imagining Johnny pull him up.
You met V at a very strange time in their life
The way things play out in Vs head when it comes to Johnny is different than what actually happens. He or She may think they’re reaching their hand out and being pulled up by Johnny, but in reality, they used their other hand to push themselves up while reaching out with their other hand in the air. It’s almost like schizophrenia. The voices and images are all real to anyone suffering from it.
It’s in V’s head i’d assume, and I like to think that V is at such a critical point cause of the relic that the lines of reality of who they are + Johhny, are starting to blur for them. I kind of like the idea that V is genuinely losing it by this point.
But yeah, we see scenes of Johnny moving chairs and stuff but then once the cutscenes are over, the chairs were never moved and such. I’d just chalk this up to being on the same level.
