I never played it because scary games terrified me too much, but I’d watch others play it at the local LAN center. I remember the helicopter scene the most, but I don’t remember if it was the first game or not.

Also a fantastic FPS. Miss this game, it’s delisted on Xbox, I definitely would have bought it again.

Surprised no-ones cashed in on a VR version of this, …I’d buy it.

F.E.A.R. was an absolutely amazing horror-FPS. I remember playing this in the complete dark at night when it was released. The constant eery and ominous ambiance they managed to create is just fucking amazing and had me shitting bricks like I was a factory. The traumatized, psychic little girl constantly stalking you is goddamn effective. Too bad the sequels weren’t on par with the first. Especially part 3 was quite shit. But damn the original was amazing
Benjuto12
I watched my brother played it for the first time because I don’t like horror games, that game is scary as fuck
SgtBaxter
They should remaster this game and release it for VR
kjob
Lol that’s the scene where you’re going up a ladder right? I still think about it sometimes. I remember it looking a lot better…time hasn’t been kind to the ol gal.
therowlett1023
My dumbass thought this was lethal company
BOSTONNN
Multi-player was fun… I stopped playing the single player at the ” don’t go down there scene” with the girl and flooding / fire down the stairs
SomboSteel
This is literally the first scene I think of when someone mentions this game lmao
Zeon_Pilot83
The scares ramped up when you got adult emaciated Alma in the mix.

I had a friend play this after I already did, and he legit jumped past that ladder and ruined the whole jump scare. He didn’t see her just heard a creepy sound play.

I remember this game had online multiplayer and I got into a heated shit talk fest with some random guy in a match. We decided to 1v1 and I let him host so he would have the ping advantage and no excuses if he lost. I ended up killing him 16 times without dying before he admitted defeat (I was even surprised how well I was playing). I was always extra proud of this because FEAR is one of those games where you actually have to pick up health on the map instead of it automatically regenerating, and so the fact that with relatively no experience with the game I smashed this dude that hard I will never forget. After the beating he quickly dropped the shit talking and we became friends! Will always think of that experience when the game is mentioned.

Still love the F.E.A.R. games. Scared the shit outta me as a kid.
xsmallsx01
I will never forget that part. Simply turning around to use the ladder scared the shit out of me.
The enemy AI was also pretty advanced for the time with squads pushing to flank and such.
bad-boy-and-girl
Damn those back to back scares fucked me up lmao
k3lz0
This is the ladder one? The one that you go up and at the top you have that glimpse of alma?
Mediocre_Ad_7274
Same, I loved F.E.A.R because even tho I had a gun, it still was scary
ShoppyMcShopperton
This game was ahead of it’s time, it would be amazing in 4K. One of the best FPS ever made
nc_ce
This scene scared me, but Alma running on all fours through the vents had me traumatized.
Kataratz
I know people always mention that scene, but the rest of the game has such a lonely atmosphere its just as scary, specially in harder difficulties, cause the enemies are just that fucking good.
Xerio_the_Herio
Is that the ladder scene?
Talknterpzz
I remember seeing the ads for this game in game informer or some shit
omfgtalldude
I remember vividly climbing up and seeing her feet and climbing back down immediately. Nope nope nope
johali
This was the first game I got to nail a dude to the wall with that sweet rail spike gun
SpartanL16
This is the exact spot I was watching my dad play and lmao… double whammy
