I thought that big foot mission in rdr1 was great touching on this subject. Bigfoot just straight up calls you a monster for doing what you do, and of course, this is the game where there was an achievement for wiping out the buffalo.

I mean, usually when you’re grinding for that rare loot to put together the fucking OMEGA weapon or whatever, it’s more of an optional side questy thing for the absolute completionist. At least in my experience, which may be a little dated these days. You’re usually fine just taking on the ultimate evil with penultimate equipment
