They are different tools for different jobs. I would do a side-by-side comparison, because depending on what exactly you are doing and what hardware you have, one may be better than the other.
Vanilla Chrome uses a lot of resources if you have a lower spec PC, conversely Firefox can be slow if you have a higher spec PC. Chrome can actually outperform FF depending on addons and PC spec, while also providing generally better compatibility.
Basically if you have an 8C+/16T+ CPU with 32gb of RAM there is no reason to not use Chrome. If you are still trying to squeeze life out of your 2C/4T laptop with 8gb of RAM you need to be running FF or a “lite” browser.

Firefox uses pretty much the same RAM as Chrome as that’s simply how Windows treats ram assignment
It is better for privacy/ad blocking/extensions in general, tho It also has compatibility issues as being not as big as it used to causes less and less websites to put in work for it

The more people use Firefox (or whatever else isn’t based on Chromium, or at least what isn’t Chrome itself), the better.
Every system I sell has Firefox on it. In the end it’s the user’s choice if they want to use something else, but I’d love for Chrome to get a smaller marketshare. Especially now with Google killing adblockers with their new manifest v3 stuff.

Firefox is funded by Google. I think like 80-90% of Mozilla’s funding comes from Google . So, if you think using Mozilla Firefox you are still “secure” from browsing activity, nope! They send all your shit to Google too.
Chrome uses/is built on Chromium. Quite a few modern browsers use chromium today, including Edge. Because of this, these browsers are technically more secure than Firefox, etc.
Chromium/Chromium-based products are notoriously memory hogs.
Electron is a desktop framework also based on chromium. Lots of popular apps are also built using Electron. For example, Discord, VSCode, etc., which is also why these apps use a ton of memory…
I suspect it has to do with using JavaScript as the primary language for these apps and it’s horrible memory management. For better memory management, lower level languages do a much better job than JavaScript’s Garbage Collector’s algorithm.
