Normally games disable older GTX cards from running RTX features, but the 1080 and 1080ti do support them on a driver level. The framerate is low but it does work – the 1080ti is truly a legendary card, sadly I tested this just before upgrading to a 4080S, but I will forever remember how much of a beast this thing was for its time (and still today, to be fair).
Also makes you wonder how much of the RT tech behind RT cores and their acceleration is marketing bs, and how much they actually do in this scenario that regular CUDA cores couldn’t do with some proper optimization and extra juice.

If you don’t understand how rt works ,then don’t freaking make up claims that it’s done for no reason.AMD has shown that non dedicated ray tracing sucks.

I don’t really care about ray tracing, with the in advances in tracing technology it’s a shame to see such a great GPU go but it’s still got alot of fight left in it including some newer games. Like for example Resident Evil 4 Remake Ultra – High settings at 1440p and FSR Quality the GTX 1080 card can achieve 80+ FPS

That card was still amazing up until now. I gave it to my friend years ago and he finally upgraded just recently.

I think RT can work on Pascal cards but its emulated without physical RT accelerators. So it runs only extremly slow.

You can play Shadows Of The Tomb Raider on a 1080ti at 45-60 fps. Same goes for Robocop, near maxing that one out at 70-80fps.

sure, the 1080[+ti] support the Shader Level api it just runs like trash because shader cores are not optimized for RT calculations
Modern nvidia GPU’s are basically 3 ASIC cards smashed together. The Shader Cores are highly optimized for traditional shader work, the tensor cores are optimized for running neural networks, and the RT cores are optimized for ray calculations
