Jesus, I remember being in a room with 4 or 5 other kids. We named the characters after each other. We would take turns. Some of us would just level the characters. Others would play through the story.
Such a great game and story. I hope you have as much fun as we did.

IMHO, Final Fantasy II/IV (originally on SNES “You spoony Bard!!”)
Final Fantasy III/V (also SNES, Interceptor the dog, so awesome)
And IX (PlayStation, omg the emotional kicks to the chest)

Yay! Im 54 and didnt play this til i was like 40 or so dont feel bad! But DO have a great time. Love the early FF games!
Nice, first one has aged a bit but is still fun. I actually like the GBA version since it switched from the D&D spell system to MP which made magic more useful.
6 will probably always be my favorite. 7 is still great but man, graphically it did not age well.
8 broke me. that was the last one I ever played. been meaning to get back into them again, beat the ones that didn’t release in the US initially (2,3,5) and pick up at 9

Dragon Warrior and Zelda kid myself. Haven’t even seen a Final Fantasy game played in my 43 years. Maybe it’s time!

You are in for some fun grinding.
The art on this is unparalelled, and if you are coming from Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest you are in for a bit of a surprise here. Try to play as long as you can without a guide to really embrace the 1980s-ness of this game.
I just bought this pixel remaster on steam (along with it’s 5 other brothers for $80) and am re-playing for the first time in over 20 years.

Are you going to play through them all in order? I played the original and then the US versions of 2 and 3 on the Super NES back in the day.
I found out when I bought 3 on Steam that 2 and 3 here were 5 and 6 in Japan!
I think I’ll play them all some day, but it’s going to be a while.
Side note: I got Dragon Warrior free for signing up for Nintendo Power back when that deal was going on and that’s how I got into video game RPGs. I played Dragon Warrior and then Dragon Warrior 2 and then found the Final Fantasy series.
