The amount of Steam Deck twitter accounts that will lug around a keyboard, mouse, and screen that will tell you it’s a viable alternative to gaming laptop are insane.

It’s always sort of funny seeing this sub hating on people who are having a good time tinkering. The steam deck is a deeply joyful device in a way that is difficult to really understand until you’ve owned one. Buying an OLED deck legitimately re-woke a love of tech that had been slumbering in me for a decade. It’s hard not to want to experiment and push it to do things it probably wasn’t meant to do.
Suffice to say OP: hell yeah this rips

I don’t know what I’m looking at? Gpu plugged into a steam deck for more power?
PullAsLongAsICan
Wait so Steam Deck can connect to e-GPU via thunderbolt too? Never realised that. Sick setup for comfort! Loved the steamdeck for it’s portability, docking it to play at home seems nice too!
kaionfire01
Is that a GPU plugged into a steam deck handheld?
Thats sick dude, actually very cool 😂
Cyberpunk39
Why use such a tiny monitor?

That’s a cool project. Been debating getting a steam deck and now i know stuff like this is possible I’m even more intrigued by them. Subbed to your channel and will be checking out your other projects once I’ve had some sleep.

How much uplift does the 6700XT give to the steam deck? I had a 6700XT paired with a 5900X and it worked great in most games.
Does the steam decks processor cause any bottleneck issues, or is it easy enough playing entirely GPU bound?
Awesome job btw, I love seeing things like this

Looks dope as fuck to me. Awesome!
Imagine if we could build something like this for the Nintendo Switch.

Scrolling to the comments… I’m struggling to see the haters I was promised to see, except for that one crybaby comparing this setup to a laptop.
Great setup dude!

I would rather get steam deck and a $700-800 laptop for better portability, performance, display but if that’s what make you happy go for it pal.

My guy got more money in ink on one arm then I bet 80% of the clowns here have seen in their whole life. Shits dope I’ll get a handheld device one day for shit like this.
mistar_lurker420
Dude, this is fantastic. I need something like this for my partner who uses my deck while I use pc.
+1 subscriber, thank you!
Edit; it’s a little harder than I thought haha, maybe not my cup of tea. Cool though!

I really hope the next iteration of the Steam Deck has Thunderbolt or whatever IO allows external GPUs. Having the dock also be an external GPU would be awesome, especially if it’s modular and we have the option of upgrading the GPU in the future.
