Edit 1: Since some people keep talking about the 4070 OP, it’s a great card if you don’t factor in the price because you pay more for Raytracing and DLSS. For instance, some popular triple A games haven’t begun to utilize DLSS 3.0 yet or if they have, it’s not enough to notice a performance worth the premium cost. I also think Raytracing pushes your card close to the maximum TDP so your psu should be already be 750w+ gold at a minimum. If you live in a location where energy is expensive, maybe consider the 4070 if you don’t plan on using Raytracing since others have said it has a lower base energy consumption. Otherwise, using Raytracing on a 4070 would be no different than a 7800 XT and may even use more watts depending on the game.

7800xt hands down. More vram and typically better performance. And it’s cheaper. Only situation 4070 would be better is in niche workloads but you would if you had these kinds of workloads.
Fantastic_Class_3861
If you live in a country where electricity is pricy then I would choose the 4070 because it only draws 200w vs 250+ on the 7800xt
Martenus
Definitely the 4070, drivers are stable and you wont have any problems in the future. Cant say the same with AMD. Also more features like RT and DLSS. If you believe the market, nvidia probably has 80%+ market share for a reason.
ClearlyNoSTDs
I think AMD is fine for low to lower mid range GPUs. Once you get up to the 4070 area I would never go AMD but it’s not like they’re bad cards. They just lack the features that Nvidia has like RT and DLSS. Anyway, it’s all my opinion but it’s an opinion backed by sales numbers.
I’m also not an Nvidia fan boy either as my last card was a 6650 XT and it was a great card for the price.

for gaming a 7800xt
WisePotato42
Unless you’re getting the 4070 super, go for the 7800xt.
The 4070 super is a big improvement over the 4070 and is enough for ray tracing at 1440p
May1stBurst
Would rather go with a 4070, DLSS 3 is great, raytracing performance is good. Things like RTX Video HDR, etc. That extra 50 is well worth the much better day to day experience.
TheGreen627
I am more curious what EU country you can buy it at that price, lowest 4070 is 630€ for me :c
DJ_WISS
why not 4070 Super?
AMD cards are amazing but honestly I always choose Nvidia for the DLSS more than RT.
ExtraTNT
7800xt, 50 less for a card with better drivers
MarceloWallace
Never as pcmr for amd or nvidia it will always be the same answer
lukas11158
4070 for sure.
xAsasel
7800XT all day every day. Unless you care for ray tracing the 7800XT is the only correct choice here.

gotta love how everything that doesn’t wank AMD is downvoted on r/AMDMasterRace

4070 super
KnightBlad3
i would get the 4070. the 7800xt ist 5-8% faster but uses more power, prolly runs hotter and its missing cool features like dlss and fast RT
DMurBOOBS-I-Dare-You
7800 XT, hands down.

Lol where do you leave to find RTX 4070 for 560 euro? Here (Greece) the lowest RTX 4070 I can find is 800€
WalkieTalkieFreakie
I was in the same spot and chose 7800 XT. VRAM aside, the raytracing performance (at least in my case) in 1440p isn’t that good on 4070 for me to consider it over 7800 xt. If you play in 1080p then maybe but not for me

7800 XT is trash.
6800 XT. Same performance as the 7800 XT, cheaper. Sometimes it even beats the 7800 XT.
Mrkindman69
If ur planning to buy one of those I would recommend the 7800xt over the 4070 they are both great but the AMD is better in 1440p and 4k over the nVidia cuz the more vram and better rasteraztion performance
BIGG_FRIGG
I just bought that card and love it, works like a champ and still uses the single 8 pin. Less power draw plus I get to use the Nvidia filters which makes it better IMO. I play WZ at 140 fps and Cyberpunk is running at over 110 to 135 in ultra with RT on. Its also pretty and not too big.
arctrooper58
I have that exact 4070 and it’s a dream, never runs hot even when playing demanding games with Ray tracing, come to think of it I’ve never even heard the fans get loud. it’s a solid card for 1440p
atl126
I have a 7800 XT and I would love to pay another $100 and get a 4070 super
ozdude182
Your asking a severely bias community this question lol. Both cards are good, i have a 4070 and its awesome. Plays everything maxxed out at 1440p. DLSS and Frame Gen are game changers too.
Either way enjoy the upgrade 🙂

Go with the 7800xt. More VRAM too. iF you really care about RT then get a 4080 at least. AMD framegen is also good (check avatar game for example). Only downside is no DLSS but its fine.
